World Potato Congress held in Cusco
From May 27 to May 31, the tenth edition of the “World Potato Congress” will be held in Cusco and will attract around thousand scientists, producers and entrepreneurs from 52 countries. Peru is the first Latin American country to host the congress.
The World Potato Congress is organized by the World Potato Congress Inc. Corporation. The Peruvian side includes the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA), the International Potato Center (CIP), the National Agrarian University, Promperú and FAO.
Besides the congress, the National Potato Day 2018 will also be celebrated. 22 potato producers from all over the country as well as 200 producers from Cusco will participate. Apart from that, the XXVIII Congress of the Latin American Potato Association will attend the day.
During the First Festival of Biodiversity and the Innovation of the Potato, researchers and producers will exchange novelties and scientific contributions. As an example, a hybrid potato being a mixture of a variety from Puno and a wild potato from the southern United States will be presented.
Gastón Acurio will be in charge of delivering the Rurak Prize to the Peruvian potato producer.
