This year Lima is hosting the annual meeting of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary fund. The meeting, held in the new Lima Convention Center, started on Monday the 5th and will run until the 12th October. In the meetings, bank governors and finance ministers with academics and private sector bosses from 188 countries will discuss the main issues facing the world’s finances.
The themes of the meeting will include: Chinas economic slow down, reduction of metal prices, and the fight against poverty with focus on the new development goals for 2030.
The opening ceremony was held on Monday, led by the Peruvian president Ollanta Humala, and on the 9th October the plenary session will be held with World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim, President Ollanta Humala, and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde all set to speak.
This event will pave the way for more important meetings to be held in Peru such as that of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), the Development Committee, the Group of Ten (G10), the Group of Twenty (G20), along with others. The finance Minister Alonso Segura, stated that this is a very important event for Peru and as it has been almost 50 years since a meeting of this scale has been held in Latin America.
The benefits of hosting such an important international gathering are many, over 12,000 foreign participants have arrived in the country which is an incredible opportunity to form longer lasting relations with investors, entrepreneurs and academics.
