Tourist authorities of the Provincial Municipality of Trujillo estimate that around 50,000 tourists, both nationals and foreigners, visited the city to attend the 67th International Spring Festival this past weekend.
Miriam Gayoso, Deputy Manager of Tourism of the Provincial Municipality of Trujillo, reported that despite the disasters caused by the El Niño phenomenon earlier this year, it was expected that 15,000 more tourists would arrive compared to 2016 due to the recent improvements.
“We have publicized intensely in Cusco so that they are aware of Trujillo. We have the huaca El Brujo, where the face of the Lady of Cao now rests, which has attracted the attention of many people, as well as the citadel of Chan Chan, Huanchaco and the huacas of the Sun and the Moon of Moche, “he said.
The official said that although the Plaza de Armas is closed for remodeling, new tourist routes are being promoted in the city, such as the Miraflores cemetery and another route that takes you through Trujillo at night.
Roberto Valdivia Terry, president of the Lions Club of Trujillo, the organizer of the event, reported that for the Grand Spring Parade, which was held on Sunday, September 24, some 2,000 police officers and 400 serenaries were needed to provide security.
