The baby alpacas of Huancavelica are currently benefiting from vests and the application of vaccines against infections due to low temperatures.
Alpacas with thermal vests is an innovative proposal that seeks to overcome the mortality of these animals in areas of the high Andean region of Huancavelica. The population of alpacas of Huancavelica amounts to 330,000, of which 40% are young. The use of these inventions primarily seeks to protect the calves, as vulnerable population, affected by low temperatures.
Innovative thermal vests for alpacas is part of the project entitled “Environmental and Biotechnological Tools for Preventing Neonatal Mortality and Offspring of High Mountain in Huancavelica Alpacas” and is the winner of the grant offered by the entity Cienciactiva. In that sense, it seeks to protect to the alpaca babies with vests and the application of vaccines against infections. This project will be funded with a total amount of 443,072 new soles.
