Peru Wins ¨Best Destination in the Americas¨

Peru won the award ¨Best Destination in the Americas¨ at the 2017 Shanghai World Travel Fair. The Shanghai World Travel Fair is widely recognized as one the most important travel fairs in all of China.

Tour operators, travel agencies, airlines, hotels, and other business in the tourism sector from over 55 different countries took part in the 2017 Shanghair World Travel Fair.

The selection of the awards was done by the event organizers and was given to Peru, largely for the work the country´s tourism industry is doing to attract more visitors from places like China. (more…)

Peru Nominated for Important Travel Award

Peru has been nominated for an important travel award. More specifically, Peru has actually been nominated for 41 different categories for the 2017 World Travel Awards in South America.

Of these 41 categories in which Peru was nominated, 31 of Peru´s nominations are for specific businesses in the private sector. Namely, businesses that have to do with tourism such as hotels, tour agencies, etc.

Peru Among Top Travel Destinations in the World

According to the English newspaper The Telegraph, Peru ranks among the top travel destinations in the world. In fact, The Telegraph ranked Peru as 10th of the 20 destinations listed.

From South America, only two countries made the list, with Peru being one of them. Other countries outside of South American included Canada and India.

Peru was specifically featured for Cusco’s attractiveness to the backpacking crowd.

Alternative Peru Promotes Sustainable Tourism in Peru

Natalie Lefevre and Eline Andries of Alternative Peru have developed a list that promotes sustainable tourism in Peru.

The list includes different smartphone apps and websites that give travelers different ideas on how to travel green, while supporting the local economy and giving back to local people.

For example, Alternative Peru´s list suggests how to lower your footprint while traveling by using the app GreenSeat, which calculates your carbon emissions. Another website that the group promotes is Eat Your World, a website dedicated to helping tourists (more…)

Peruvian Photographer Goes on South American Road Trip

Peruvian photographer, Javier Echecopar, went on a 5-mounth road trip through South America with his wife and daughter. The Echecophar family traveled over 16,000 miles in total, beginning their travels in Santiago, Chile.

From Santiago, Echecopar and his family traveled down south to Ushuaia and came northward inland, exploring the mountains of Patagonia, as well as the Andes in Peru and Ecuador, before descending southward again along the coast.

Travelers tend to overlook Lima because the main focus of tourism in Peru is on Cusco and Machu Picchu.

People who spend their summer vacations in Peru are more attracted to the former Incan capital in the Andes, as the fog tends to settle during this time in Lima.

National Geographic crowns Peru among top destinations for travelling

Just recently, Peru was featured as one of National Geographic’s Top 5 destinations for travellers next year. The “must-see destination” was ranked as number 5 in the leading travel magazine from the UK.

Likewise, the city Choquequirao in the Cusco region was recently highly ranked in the Lonely Planet’s best travel regions. This is another place you should not miss when coming to Peru.

Moreover, the airline British Airways introduced a direct flight from London to Lima last year in May. (more…)

Millions of Tourists to Flock to Peru in 2017

Peru´s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism expects millions of tourists to flock to Peru throughout 2017.

The Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister, Eduardo Ferreyros, specifically announced that 4.36 million tourists will travel to Peru in the next year.

In addition to mining and agriculture, tourism is one of Peru´s main industries that draws foreign currency. Because of this, the government seeks to increase tourism in Peru to benefit the economy.

Schengen visa waiver agreement flourishes in Peru

The European Union Ambassador to Peru has declared that the Schengen visa waiver agreement is flourishing in Peru.

The agreement was formalized in mid-March, when Peruvians were able to travel to more countries with their biometric passports.

After examining the results in the recent months, the Ambassador, Irene Horejs, asserted that there were no issues for the Peruvians traveling to the specified European countries in the agreement.

Tourists Increase in 2016 in Peru.
The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva, declared that 75,289 more tourists traveled to Peru than last year. Compared to the first quarter of 2015, there has been a 6.7% increase in tourists in 2016.

Furthermore, there were 276,086 visitors to Peru is April alone, which is 5.1% more than April of 2015.
The countries that send the most visitors to Peru are Chile, the United States, Ecuador, Colombia, and Costa Rica. In the first quarter of 2016, Chile sent 383,487 visitors and the United States sent 176,829 visitors. (more…)

Peru named Best International Emerging Destination

The minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism stated that according to the Lonely Planet Magazine in India, Peru is the “Best International Emerging Destination”.

This recognition indicates that India has a growing interest in Peru, its history, culture and gastronomy.

Due to Peru’s promotional efforts it is expected that more and more tourists from India will come to visit Peru.

During the Travel awards organized by the Lonely Planet Magazine in Mumbai City, India, Peru received the prize for Best International Emerging Destination.

Elimination of the Schengen visa sparks thousands of Peruvian travelers to Europe

This past March, the Schengen visa requirement was eliminated for Peruvians. This means that Peruvians only have to have their passports and a few other documents in order to enter Europe for 90 days.

The process is much easier; countries merely ask Peruvians to prove that they have enough financial stability to travel through Europe and sometimes ask for confirmation of hotel/residence. It is also made very clear that it is prohibited to work during their time in Europe.

So far, only a few people have been turned away at migrations. (more…)
