More and More Tourists Visiting Colca Canyon

The Colca Canyon, located in Southern Peru, is profiling itself more and more as an important tourist destination in Peru. Nearly 35.000 tourists visited this deep gorge last August. These numbers announced by the director of the Colca region David Valdivia.

This means that the Colca Canyon continues its positive tourism trend of last year, when nearly 33.000 tourists visited the canyon. In other words, approximately 1000 tourists visit this natural phenomenon every day.

Vilcanota Mountain, known as Rainbow Mountain, in Peru, has become one of the most popular attractions in Peru, as you can read in Lonely Planet. The main reason why it is so popular are its stunning colorful layers made out of mineral deposits.

Cotahuasi Canyon: New Tourist Destination in Southern Peru?

According to the Peruvian Newspaper La República, the Colca Canyon and the Cotahuasi Canyon are breathtaking destinations providing an amazing flora and fauna, culture and a landscape that is among the most beautiful in the Andes.

Both canyons are located in Arequipa, the beautiful colonial “whity city” of Peru. The Cotahuasi Canyon is a National Landscape Reserve in the province of La Union and claims to be a Natural World Heritage Site. (more…)

Northern Peru One of the Best Places To Travel 2018

According to the US digital magazine Conde Nast Travel, the north of Peru is one of the best places to travel in 2018. The list of 18 best places to travel was set up by the magazine’s publishers and based on travel experiences and recommendations. The American magazine pointed out destinations such as the archaeological site Chan Chan, Huaca de La Luna temple, Leymebamba and the Gocta waterfalls. Arequipa Presents New Logo to Boost Local Tourism

Last week, the regional governor of Arequipa, Yamila Osorio, presented the new logo of the Marca Destino Arequipa (Arequipa Destination Brand) at a meeting with local entrepreneurs. The new logo seeks to promote tourism development in the Arequipa region. Moreover, the goal of the new logo is to work together with the public and private sector to put Arequipa in the international spotlights.

The local promotion agency “Promarequipa” organized a contest for citizens to draw their new logo for the city of Arequipa. (more…)

Peru Awarded Multiple Times During World Travel Awards

Peru has been awarded as the ‘Best Culinary Destination’ in the world for the sixth consecutive year! The archaeological complex Machu Picchu was named “Best Tourist Attraction” during the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA), held in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. Next, to that, Peru also won awards for South America’s Leading Green Destination and South America’s Leading Tourist Board.

Royal Tombs Sipán Museum Chiclayo Celebrates 15th Anniversary

Nearly 2.5 million domestic and foreign tourists have visited the Royal Tombs Museum of Sipán since its creation in 2002, informed the director of the aforementioned cultural site, archaeologist Walter Alva.

The Royal Tombs Museum celebrated its 15th anniversary on Wednesday, November 8, with a unique number of cultural, artistic and recreational activities.

New Tour in the Colca Valley

Arequipa´s Colca Valley is well-known for its amazing beauty and tourist opportunities. There are many attractions in the Colca Valley that are in the process of being promoted and improved for increased tourist activity.

One of these attractions are the Pinchollo geyers, which the State-run Colca Valley Autonomous Authority is working on developing.

These geyers emit a large amount of water vapor, which come from the jets of water that shoot up simultaneously with the Sabancaya Volcano eruptions. (more…)

Peru Best Potential Tourist Destination

Good news for Peru: the Andean nation has recieved the Chinese Destination Award “Best Potential Tourist Destination” offered by the important Chinese travel agency CTRIP.

It’s the result of an intensive marketing campaign organized by the Peruvian Embassy in China together with different trade offices. President Ollanta Humala also suported the campaign.

China has become a important travel market for Peru and other many countries, as Chinese tourists made over 100 milliones trips abroad in 2014 (more…)

The last prisoner on Brazil’s Big Island

The 83 year old Julio de Almeida is the last prisoner on Ilha Grande, near the coast of Rio de Janeiro

Nowadays the island is a popular tourist destination, but for a century it was completely closed off. First it was used to house a leper colony. Later it turned into a top security prison. It was closed in 1994 but Julio still lives there.

He arrived on the island as a 27 year old in 1958.After a lengthy period of incarceration he was given a conditional release to remain on the island – a sentence which finally ends this year. (more…)

Tripadvisor ranks Machupicchu top attraction in the world

Last week, named Machu Picchu the top attraction in the world in their 2013 World Travel Awards. The country of Peru also earned 5 out of the top 10 spots for attractions in the South America category, proving that Peru is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region!

The winners of the awards were selected by members of the TripAdvisor website. Although it is difficult to determine what type of impact this award will have on the tourism industry in Peru, many believe it will result in an increase of travelers visiting Peru and in particular the Cusco area.
