Peru’s 3rd biggest Sector Regarding Income Is the Tourism Industry

The ever-growing tourism industry in Peru has secured a good position. Not only is it one of the biggest sectors when it comes to both direct and indirect employment, but it is also of high importance when it comes to revenue. This has been announced by the president of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) Yolanda Torriani.

Tourism Natural Protected Areas yielded US$720 million in 2017

In 2017, the Natural Protected Areas in Peru yielded an income of around US$720 million (S/2.340 billion). Tourist services were provided by 36,000 people working in the tourism industry in these regions.

With the help of Andes Amazon Fund, the Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF) published a study dealing with the local economic impact of tourism in Natural Protected Areas in Peru.

Tourism reduces poverty in Peru

In the past five years, more than 300,000 new jobs have been created in Peru due to the tourism industry. The Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva affirmed that this job creation has aided in the reduction of poverty throughout the country.

Silva announced, ‘’It has meant a greater participation of small enterprises and women in the tourism industry.’’ Because of this, more people have jobs and more women are involved in business.

Looking back on 2015, tourism brought in a revenue of $3.32 billion and expanded by 7.5%. (more…)

$161 million in domestic tourism for Holy Week

The National Chamber of Tourism has estimated that 1.8 million people will travel domestically in Peru during Holy Week.

Every person that participates in domestic tourism during this week is expected to spend an average of $89.60, which will contribute a total of $161 million to the tourism industry.

The Chairman of the National Chamber of Tourism, Jorge Jochamowitz, insists that the booking of tour packages continues to increase day after day, particularly to southern areas in Peru. (more…)

“Peru Honored with ‘2014 World’s Leading Culinary Destination’ Award”

Each year the World Travel Awards honors different countries for excellence in all areas of the tourism industry and global travel. On Monday Dec. 8th Foreign Trade and Tourism minister, Magali Silva, confirmed that Peru had won the highly coveted 2014 World’s Leading Culinary Destination award. Additionally, Perutravel, an official tourism website run by the Peruvian government, was honored with the World’s Leading Tourism Authority Website 2014 award.
