Unknown Amazonian Tribe Caught On Camera Near Peruvian Border

Recently an unknown Amazonian tribe was discovered using drones. This clan was spotted in a remote Amazonian area in Brazil, near the Peruvian border. A team of researchers confirmed that the tribe is located between the riverbeds of the Jutaí river and the Jurazinho river.

The National Indian Foundation (NIF), the organization for which the researchers work, is looking for native tribes in the rainforest for over 100 years already. This hasn’t always been easy (more…)

New type of orchid found in Peruvian jungle

Sernanp, the National Service of Natural Protected Areas of Peru has announced the discovery of a new type of orchid in a national park of the country located in the central jungle.

This new orchid has been named Andina tingomariana by the Department of Biological and Ecological of Colorado, United States. This name was chosen in honour of the the place it was first found, the Tingo Maria National Park.

Incan Ruins Discovered in Peruvian Jungle

Cattle ranchers have discovered what looks to be the ruins of a pre-Hispanic citadel, possibly Inca, in the thicket of the Peruvian jungle in the southern region of Cusco, announced the Provincial Municipality of La Convención. The ruins consist of platforms, streets, passageways, walls and dwellings that cover an area of about two hectares, although the vegetation may hide more buildings.

The citadel is located in an area belonging to the Lacco Yavero valley and the National Sanctuary of Megantoni, a five day walk from an area known as Sacramento. (more…)

International Rainforest Expo Showcases Peru´s Superfoods

Expo Amazonica 2017, Peru’s top Amazon rainforest produce trade event, featured many national and international buyers this year, plus some 70 Peruvian exporters in the cities of Moyobamba and Tarapoto.

The expo, an international showcase for agrarian products in the Peruvian jungle, mainly for the so-called “superfoods”, aroused the interest of foreign buyers, said Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros. Sacha inchi, camu camu berries, aguaje, and hearts of palm were just some of the superfoods showcased this year that were trying to take the top spots from coffee and cocoa (more…)
