Peru now one of the World’s Top 10 Providers of Food

During the last four years, Peru has become the largest exporter of not only Quinoa, the golden grain of the inca’s, but also of maca, a root that belongs to the radish family, and asparagus. This has been reported by the Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI).

With this success Peru is now one of the world’s top 10 providers of food, thanks to the wonderfull soil donditions and micro-climates. Next to maca, asparagus and quinoa, Peru also exports grapes, avocados, beans, ginger mangoes and coffee; Peru is actually the second largest exporter of organic coffee. (more…)

Mistura is to be held in Lima, Peru in September of 2014

When travelling in Peru, you are sure to be asked if you like the Peruvian food. All Peruvians have a great pride for their vast array of delicious dishes and they have every right to be. Peru knows how to do cuisine right, from their famous lomo saltado to ceviche, you are sure to love their food.

Holding to this great pride, Peru will be hosting Mistura for the seventh time this year. Mistura is one of the largest food festivals in South America. Last year more than 350,000 people came and it is projected to have more than half a million this year. (more…)

Peruvian food products to Food Conference in Madrid

Sierra Exportadora – a government program that helps Peruvian farmers to promote their products – will participate in the international culinary conference “Madrid Fusion 2014” held in the Spanish capital from Jan 27 will Jan 29. A selection of nutritious food products from different Andean regions of Peru will be in the spotligh with the aim to promote the Andean grains, trout, cheese, and other products from Peru’s highlands.
Alfonso Velasquez, head of Sierra Exportadora, will take the opportunity to present a recipe book titled “Quinua Fusión – Cinco Continentes” (Quinoa Fusion – Five Continents. (more…)

According to USA Today Peruvian cuisine will be one of the big food trends in 2014

USA Today has predicted that Peruvian food will be one of the big culinary trends of 2014.

Peruvian cuisine offers a tremendous diversity with dishes that reflect the sea, the Amazon jungle and the Andes mountains . Peru has thousands of varieties of potatoes and nearly equal variety of corn and quinoa.

Other food trends, according to the publication, include Philippines, New Nordic cuisine and “Next-Mex” (modern Mexican cooking) as becoming international food trends in the coming year. (more…)

Food tourism earns in Peru’s Tacna region

A recent report shows that food-related tourism in Peru’s southern Tacna region generates US$ 300 million per year, and most of the tourists come from Peru’s southern neighbor, Chile.

The study was conducted by PromPeru, Peru’s export and tourism promotion agency and shows. that the most important reason to visit Tacna are its varied culinary options, followed by city tours, health services and shopping.

David Rendon, head of the regional chamber of tourism, said that the average Chilean tourist really likes restaurants offering rotisserie chicken (more…)

Many travelers come to Peru for gastronomic tourism

Peruvian restaurants are opening all over the world and Peruvian cuisine is booming. And more and more foodies come to Peru to check out Peruvian food in its land of origin.

According to Promarket Peru, 1.2 million tourists will have come to Peru by the end of 2013 with the intention of doing gastronomic tourism.

This represents about 40% of the projected 2013 total of 3.1 million foreign tourists, reported, citing Lima daily El Comercio.
