Lima-based Maido Best Restaurant Latin America

Peru’s famous restaurant Maido is chosen as the best restaurant in Latin America for the second time in a row. This restaurant, located in Lima, combines traditional Peruvian cuisine with Japanese influences. Naturally, this means that Maido is also the best restaurant of the old Inca country.

This has been announced in the Colombian capital Bogota on 6 November. Significant chefs, restaurant owners, food bloggers, journalists and famous sommeliers were among the attendees of the event. (more…)

Pope to Eat Ceviche during Visit to Peru

Ceviche, the flagship dish of Peru and Peruvian cuisine, will be one of the dishes that Pope Francisco will taste during his visit to the country between January 18 and 21.

The Apostolic Nuncio in Peru, Nicola Girasoli, reported that, based on the humility and simplicity that characterizes him, the Supreme Pontiff always asks that typical dishes of the country he visits be included. The website has more than 11 million visitors each month and has a team of critics, editors and videographers who are specialized in gastronomy in the U.S.

Thousands enjoy the famous Pachamanca dish in Peru

The Cuasimodo Regional Fair recently took place in Huancayo, where cooks began preparing the famous Pachamanca dish at 3:00 that morning.

Pachamanca is a famous dish that uses many meats and vegetables. It is cooked underground using hot rocks and seasonings. The hot rocks are placed in a hole in the ground to create a make-shift oven and the meat is covered with corn leaves to create a roasting effect.

Almost 8,000 people attended the event and had the opportunity to eat Pachamanca. (more…)

Peruvian Cuisine continues to grow

On Tuesday, March 29th, the National Gastronomy Association will host a forum about the future of Peruvian Cuisine. It will occur in the Chiclayo Municipality´s auditorium.

This forum is a precursor to a more formal international congress that will take place in mid-April. Chiclayo is well-situated to have a regional meeting about the subject before the formal meeting next month.

The forum is entitled, ´´New Challenges of Peruvian Cuisine,´´ and will involve many leaders that are interested in the future of Peru´s famous food. (more…)

Eat Ceviche before you die!

The U.S website PureWow about lifestyle, with 4 million readers, included the Peruvian dish ceviche in their “21 things all foodies need to eat before they die”.

The Peruvian ceviche was placed on number 3 on the list on the PureWow website. The dishes included in the list are recommended to be eaten in the country of origin.

The article recommends people to combine the ceviche with the Peru’s National Drink: Pisco sour. (more…)

A documentary titled ´´Finding Gaston´´ is a film that features Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio and his famous cuisine. The documentary has traveled all around the world and has now reached American Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon.

The film was released two years ago in Peru, in Lima, and continues to gain momentum at all sorts of festivals, celebrations, and studies across the planet.

Peru Receives Best Culinary Destination Award for the 4th consecutive year

For the fourth consecutive year, Peru was named “best culinary destination in the world” by the World Travel Awards. Known as the “Oscar of Tourism,” each year these awards highlight the best in the travel industry in the world.

The organizers stressed that Peru has been recognized in the Latin American region and the world as a gastronomic reference, to the extent that there is a large tourism segment that is dedicated primarily to discovering and enjoying Peruvian cuisine.

National Geographic recently published an article of the 10 best specialties of Peruvian cuisine, which is known to be one of the worlds finest.

Included are meals which mainly consist of meat, for example cuy – baked or barbecued Andean guinea pig, which is served with head and legs – or anticuchos; grilled meat, mostly beef heart, served in restaurants or as street food. Many restaurants offer alpaca and the pollo a la brasa, meaning roasted chicken marinated with a smoky and salty dressing, which is often served with French fries. (more…)

Traditional Peruvian cuisine Cultural Heritage

The traditional Peruvian cuisine will apply to become an Intagible Cultural Heritage in 2015 as it merits its place on the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO)’s landmark list.

“What we aim for 2015 is to prepare all needed documentation to request UNESCO to include the Peruvian gastronomy in the list,” said Luis Castillo Butters. Peru’s Deputy Minister of Culture and Cultural Industries.

He has already formally discussed the proposal to apply the World Heritage  with the Society of Gastronomy (Apega). According to the Peruvian goverment (more…)

When travelling in Peru, you are sure to be asked if you like the Peruvian food. All Peruvians have a great pride for their vast array of delicious dishes and they have every right to be. Peru knows how to do cuisine right, from their famous lomo saltado to ceviche, you are sure to love their food.

Holding to this great pride, Peru will be hosting Mistura for the seventh time this year. Mistura is one of the largest food festivals in South America. Last year more than 350,000 people came and it is projected to have more than half a million this year. (more…)

New Peruvian cookbook published

Because of the worldwide popularity of gastronomic tours a Peruvian travel operator, published his book in which they describe all the typical flavors and ingredients used in the Peruvian cuisine such as rice, potatoes, onions, the different kinds of meat and the 3 types of Peruvian peppers (the yellow, the red and the rocoto red).

Besides this, the book includes as well 32 recipes of the typical Peruvian dishes as the famous ceviche and ajiaco de papas.
