Paracas and Ballestas Islands receive 500,000 visitors in 2015

Paracas National Reserve and Ballestas Islands in the Ica region on the South Coast of Peru, were expected to atract over 500,000 visitors last week, by the end of December 2015. The region is now of the favorite sites in Peru for travelers interested in connecting with nature.

Domestic vacationers, that generally travel during long weekends, are included here as wel as foreign tourists.

Pedro Gamboa, head of state-run National Service of Natural Protected Areas—Sernanp, highlighted the growth of Paracas Bay, which consists of two natural areas: Paracas Natural Reserve and Ballestas Islands. (more…)

Totora from Lake Titicaca to be Marketed in Holland

The head of the Titicaca National Reserve(RNT), Víctor Apaza, announced that next month Peru will begin exporting totora, a subspecies of the giant bulrush sedge, to the Netherlands, after the signing of the first contract of resource management. The agreement was signed by the national service of protected natural Areas by the State (Sernanp) of Peru and the inhabitants of Uros Chulluni, a set of floating islands in Lake Titicaca.

More than 50 Rangers to defend Lake Titicaca

As is well-known Lake Titicaca in the province of Puno, in Peru, faces many challenges. Threats to the environment such as the invasion of foreign species, pollution and a destructive tourists industry are all high. However local authorities are taking steps to help preserve the historic and beautiful landscape of the zone.

The Lake Titicaca National Reserve in Puno has sworn in over 50 volunteer community park rangers in a ceremony organized by Peru’s National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp). The rangers dedicated to the protection of the area (more…)

Peru promotes Ecotourism

Since the 4th of February until the 12th of February, the municipality of Marcona is hosting the 15th edition of the Marcona’s Tourist Week.

Marcona is situated in the Ica Region and with this tourist campaign; the town gives tourists the chance to get to know the Guano Islands and Capes National Reserve System. Their objective is to promote these natural protected areas as the perfect destination for nature, adventure and culture.

Tambopata National Reserve celebrates 25 years

Yesterday it was exactly 25 years ago that the Tambopata National Reserve was founded.

Located in the Peruvian Amazon, it was established on the 26th of January 1990 to protect its fauna and flora that exists of eight different life zones where 165 species of trees, 103 different mammals, 1300 kinds of butterflies and 90 species of amphibians are living.

In 1990 the Peruvian government declared Tambopata a National Reserve following the recommendations of various researchers. (more…)
