Lima Hosts Ecological Music Festival

Earlier this month, Lima hosted Selvámonos, an ecologically focused musical festival.

The festival not only hosted a wide variety of musical acts, but also many workshops, talks, and art pieces centered principally on sustainability and jungle conservation.

For example, different art exhibits from Decartón and Aquitectos Medihabitat were featured that displayed unique sculptures created from recycled materials.

Guns N´ Roses coming to Lima in late October

The famous Guns N´ Roses is coming to Lima at the end of October!

Tickets have officially gone on sale for the anticipated concert that will take place on October 27th. The band plans to kick off its tour through Latin America in Peru´s capital of Lima.

Other cities that the band plans to visit are Santiago, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, and some other cities in Brazil.

Some of their most well-known songs include ´´Sweet Child O´ Mine,´´ ´´Patience,´´ ´´Don´t Cry,´´ ´´Welcome to the Jungle,´´ ´´Paradise City,´´ and ´´November Rain.´´ (more…)

An inside look into Peru´s new president: Pedro Pablo Kuczynski

Pedro Pablo Kuczynski was born on October 3, 1938 in Lima, Peru. His father was a German doctor who did missions and research along the coast of Peru.

Pedro Pablo Kuczynzki grew up living among Iquitos, Puno, Cusco, and Lima. The Kuczynski family was not well-off, so all of Pedro Pablo´s education was funded through scholarships. That being said, he managed to attend some impressive schools, including Princeton and Oxford.

He also was very interested in music as a young boy. In Switzerland and England, he took various classes in composition, piano, and flute. (more…)

Juan Diego Florez provides hope for Peruvian children

Opera superstar Juan Diego Florez has a foundation that aims to help Peruvian communities through music. The idea is to give children a purpose through music, and consequently bettering society.

Florez´s foundation is called Symphony for Peru. The foundation recently did a study of children and music, and the study affirmed Florez´s beliefs that children benefit from music.

Florez organizes ways for low-income children to go to some type of musical activity after school. This could be practicing, playing in an orchestra, or singing in a chorus. (more…)

Gran Teatro Nacional to honor Mother’s Day and Pachamama

On May 6th, 2016, the Gran Teatro Nacional will be hosting an event called, ‘’Pachamama: Canto y Rito a la madre’’ (Pachamama: Chant and Rite to mothers) in Lima. More than 40 talented artists will participate in this production with the intent to honor Pachamama and the many mothers around the world.

Violinist Ándres Chimango Lares, one of Peru’s most famous musicians, will be leading the event. Other musicians include Jaime Guardia, Manual Silva ‘Pinchincucha’, Porfirio Ayvar, Riber Oré, and numerous Andean artists.
