Peru Sees increase in Foreign Visitors last December

Peru saw an increase in foreign visitors in December 2016. In total, 404,000 visitors arrived to Peru´s capital city of Lima via the Jorge Chavez International Airport in December.

Therefore, there was a 13% increase in visitors from last December. The most visitors arrived from the United States and other parts of South America. However, many arrivals also came from Spain as well.

Peruvian Avocado Exports Flourished in 2016

According to the Association of Peruvian Exporters, Peruvian avocado exports have flourished in 2016. The Association´s data and statistics system asserted that this is the fourth year in row that it´s seen this positive growth.

Four years ago in 2013, avocado exports totaled US$184.4 million. This has increased substantially over the last years, reaching a total of US$445.7 million at the end of 2016.

These high numbers of avocado exports show the importance that the fruit has in Peru´s trade system. In fact, avocados make up 10.9% of Peru´s total agricultural exports. (more…)

The popularity of Peru´s quinoa

Peruvian grown quinoa is ever increasing in popularity. In fact, quinoa exports reached 33,778 tons in the first 8 months of this year.

The Association of Peruvian Exporters says that this marks a 36% increase of quinoa from the same period the year before.

However, experts also assert that revenues are decreasing, dropping 14% from the year before. Many say that this is due to an oversupply of the quinoa crop, therefore causing the price of quinoa to decrease.

The Association of Peruvian Exporters asserts that it is striving to promote quinoa´s benefits and different ways to use it. (more…)

Peru´s coffee exports are thriving this year

According to Peru´s National Coffee Board, Peru´s coffee exports have increased by 38% this year, thus proving that coffee exports are thriving.

The President of Peru´s National Coffee Board, Tomas Cordova, announced that the period between January and August of this year saw coffee exports total $323 million.

Cordova comments on the fact that coffee exports totaled 2,250,000 quintals. He says, ´´If the weather and pests do not cause major problems, and taking into account the current flowering of coffee trees, we might exceed 6,500,000 quintals in 2017.´´ (more…)

Who wants more chocolate? Peru´s cocoa exports expand

Over the last four years, Peru´s cocoa exports have increased by 250%. Specifically, organic cocoa shipments have grown by 400%. This drastic increase in cocoa shipments shows just how much both the product and Peru have grown over the years.

The cocoa that is produced in Peru is unique because there is only one variety of it. Furthermore, the Deputy Director for International Promotion, Jose Quiñonez, asserted that all of Peru´s cocoa products meet the standards for environmental sustainability.

The consumption of fine chocolate in Peru increased with more than 20% the days before Mother’s Day. This time of the year chocolate is a popular gift for all the mothers.

Minimum Wage in Peru Increases

As millions of Peruvians celebrated Labor Day on Sunday, May 1st, they also had something else to celebrate: an increase in the minimum wage!

Starting on May 1st, President Ollanta Humala declared a new minimum monthly wage of S/. 850. The minimum wage used to be S/. 750, so it saw an increase of S/. 100.

Humala announced this good news while attending a meeting of Trabaja Peru. The meeting took place in Puno on March 30th. (more…)

Peru Celebrates Labor Day

The National Institute of Statistics and Information announced that approximately 15,918,900 Peruvians participated in the celebrations of Labor Day on Sunday, May 1st.

A survey was recently taken to examine the expansion in the working population in the past 5 years. It was discovered that the male working population increased by 6.5% and the female working population increased by 4.2%.

Particularly in urban areas, the working population has greatly increased. In fact, it expanded by 9.6%. (more…)

Tourist Numbers increase for February in Peru

Considering the number of tourists that traveled to Peru in 2015, there was a 9.9% rise in tourist numbers this past February 2016. In fact, every month this year has seen an increased number of foreign tourists.

An additional 29,000 tourists flocked to Peru in the first months of 2016. The majority of these people come from Chile, the United States, Ecuador, Colombia, and Uruguay.

There were also visitors from the Pacific Alliance, APEC countries, and European countries. Most European travelers are from the United Kingdom and France. (more…)

Peru increases the number of tourism by attending the World Tourism Fair in France

Peru participated in the World Tourism Fair in Paris during from 19 till 22nd of March. Peru’s appearance at big events like this are very important and this will increase the number of tourists traveling to Peru, is what Magali Silva Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism – said.

Positive news for the country of Peru, as Peru will take great advantage out of this.

About 500 local and international companies attended the fair that is considered one biggest in the world. More than 100 000 visitors and over 1000 journalists attended the fair. (more…)
