Cusco Readies for Inti Raymi

Inti Raymi, or Festival of the Sun, will take place this Friday, June 24th in Cusco, Peru. This is a celebration that the Incas observed every year, and the Cusco locals continue in their tradition.

As Cusco was the capital of the Incan Empire, the city held much significance, so this important festival was practiced here. The Inti Raymi festival is very similar to the New Years celebrations that we have at the beginning of January.

The Incas chose to celebrate at this time of the year because it marks the end of the harvest period and the start of the vernal equinox. (more…)

Peru joins International Social Tourism Organization

Peru recently received the Joining Certificate from the International Social Tourism Organization (ISTO). Peru is now officially a member of the ISTO and will continue to pursue social tourism development policies.

Peru received the certificate at the First National Forum on Social Tourism in Lima. During this convention there were more than 200 local attendees from public and private sectors, and also foreign speakers participated in the discussion about Social Tourism development.

The Social Tourism concept has been promoted since 2015. (more…)

New archaeological sites found in Arequipa

You might think that all existing ruins and old remains are already discovered. However, this is not the case even now new archaeological sites are being found. During the lasts months of 2015 a field inspection was conducted in Arequipa’s district of Ayo to identity the cultural potential and the tourism possibilities of this location. During this inspection led by archaeologist Apu Mendoza a total of 90 archaeological sites have been found.

A terrace area has been identified which accounted for more than half of the total area. (more…)
