Asian Tour Operators Get to Know Peru

PromPeru, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board of the country, invited tour operators from China, India and Japan to Peru in order to increase tourist arrivals from Asia. These operators got an insight into Peru’s natural as well as cultural diversity, its gastronomy and hotel infrastructure.

In total, three groups came to Peru. All of them took part in business rounds of Peru Travel Mart that were organized in Lima from the 27th to the 29th of April.

Peruvian Embassy in Germany Hosts Gastronomic Week

Last month, the Peruvian embassy in Germany hosted Peruvian Gastronomic Week. The event was held at the Inselhotel in the city of Potsdam and invited political dignitaries from the two countries to participate.

This event provided the opportunity for these political figures to enjoy the best of Peruvian cuisine together. Furthermore, this event allowed the guests from Peru to share more about the different tourist attractions to guests from Germany.

At the event, the Peruvian ambassador emphasized the importance of the superfoods Peru provides to many countries as exports. (more…)

Peru Wins Award at Tourism Competition in Spain

Peru recently won an award in tourism at a tourism competition in Spain. This fair was the 22nd Best Active Tourism Product Competition.

The competition was put on by the International Tourism Trade Fair, intended to promote tourism across the globe and expand upon the existing products in the industry.

The publication called ´´Peru, Mucho Gusto´´ won the award for Food&Wine Tourism. The award was given by a panel of people in various facets of tourism, whether that be magazines, social media, or otherwise. (more…)

Peru Named #1 Culinary Spot for 5th Consecutive Year

At this year´s World Travel Awards, Peru was named the #1 culinary spot for the 5th consecutive year!

Every year, the World Travel Awards are held to recognize the top destinations throughout the world.

Peru now holds the great prestige of being honored for its gastronomy for so many years in a row. The Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Export and Tourism asserted that this honor is due to a team effort in Peru.

Arequipa Sets Record for the World´s Largest Rocoto Relleno

Arequipa, Peru, recently set a new record for the world´s largest rocoto relleno, also known as stuffed pepper, which is a typical Peruvian dish.

The dish consists of beef, onion, garlic, eggs, raisins and peanuts, along with the spicy rocoto. In this particular preparation of the dish, over two thousand rocotos were used.

The final rocoto relleno weighed 542 killos and 700 grams. This outweighed the dish holding the Guinness World Record by 200 kilos.

Peruvians Celebrate National Salchipapa Day

On Sunday, November 13th, Peruvians gathered to celebrate National Salchipapa Day with the famous Peruvian dish.

The Salchipapa dish was originally created by the people of Lima as a cheap dish that could be enjoyed when finances were low. It is considered the ´´fast-food´´ of Lima.

The plate consists of French fries and fried sausage, with mayonnaise or garlic on the side as a sauce.
Various experts that specialize in gastronomy united to celebrate this famous plate. In fact, numerous renditions of Salchipapa were presented at the event. (more…)

A Fantastic Food Festival in Tumbes, Peru

A fantastic food festival recently took place in Tumbes, Peru, where thousands of locals and tourists gathered to partake of countless typical Peruvian dishes.

This was the 12th event of the food festival called ´´Peru, Mucho Gusto,´´ and was held in Tumbes, Peru for the second time. The festival began on November 4th and lasted until November 6th.

The event was originally founded in 2006 by the Peruvian government in order to promote gastronomy and tourism in Peru. Specifically, Peru wants to increase tourism and collaboration with its neighbor Ecuador. (more…)

Mistura food fair coming soon to Lima

Mistura 2016, Latin America´s most important food fair, is set to take place between September 2nd and September 11th of this year.

The Peruvian Gastronomy Society (Apega) has chosen more than 180 restaurants to participate in the fair at Lima´s Costa Verde seashore.

A few of the main chefs announced the list of eateries that will provide traditional Peruvian dishes and street food that so many people are anticipating. There are also several restaurants that will be present who provide a fusion of food, such as El Aguajal and Miski Mikuy Wanka. (more…)

National Geographic does a special on Peru

Last Friday, July 8th, the first episode of a series about Peru aired on National Geographic Latin America.

The show plans to broadcast eight episodes in total, the theme being Peru´s up and coming gastronomy and rich culture.

Just a few months ago, National Geographic reached out to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism to see if it would be possible to do a project on Peru. The head of the department, Magali Silva, was more than thrilled for Peru to have this type of publicity.

A very popular website in the U.S,, designed an interactive map of Washington D.C. “Where to eat Peruvian food around Washington D.C. This map encourages the readers to explore the delicious cuisine of Peru.

The website has more than 11 million visitors each month and has a team of critics, editors and videographers who are specialized in gastronomy in the U.S.

This portal highlights the Peruvian gastronomy by compiling a special list of 10 Peruvian restaurants in D.C. (more…)

Peru and Malaga work together on tourism & gastronomy

The minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism in Peru has stated that the authorities in Peru and Malaga will work together on tourist development, gastronomy and investment issues.

The Peruvian minister met with the president of the county council of Malaga during the annual meeting of the World Tourism Organization. This meeting is meant to exchanges experiences and learn about the tourism models and investment and export opportunities and strategies.

The minister noted that Peru has been working hard to turn tourism into a source of employment and income for the country. (more…)

The world’s most important chili/pepper event will be held in Peru

The international markets are demanding more and more of Peru’s chilies and peppers. These exports increased with 19% and cashed in $271.8 million according to the Adex (Exporters association).

In the first months of 2016 the total of the Peruvian exports were about $36.6 million.

Because of the growing export numbers within the international markets, Peru has been chosen to host the 23rd International Pepper Conference 2016. This conference is the world’s most important Capsicum event. (more…)
