Mistura food fair coming soon to Lima

Mistura 2016, Latin America´s most important food fair, is set to take place between September 2nd and September 11th of this year.

The Peruvian Gastronomy Society (Apega) has chosen more than 180 restaurants to participate in the fair at Lima´s Costa Verde seashore.

A few of the main chefs announced the list of eateries that will provide traditional Peruvian dishes and street food that so many people are anticipating. There are also several restaurants that will be present who provide a fusion of food, such as El Aguajal and Miski Mikuy Wanka. (more…)

Humanitarian aid was delivered to the areas high in the Andean mountains

The National Civil Defense Institute of Peru sent humanitarian aid to the residents affected by frosts in the mountains in the Tacna region.

The delivered aid included over 27 tons of food and almost 5,000 blankets. These supplies were handed over to the regional authorities for immediate distribution among the citizens of the Pachia, Palca, Tarata and Susapaya districts.

The National Civil Defense Institute has 25 warehouses located throughout Peru. In these warehouses they store humanitarian aid products to be able to assist people in times of need (more…)

The Demand for Guinea Pigs increases

The National Institute of Agriculture Innovation is a research team that is dedicated to improve guinea pigs in the countries of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia.

Not only are countries in South America interested in this endeavor, but Africa has also expressed interest. Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are planning to host events on food security, and Peru has been invited to said events.

Food Critics React after the Gastronomy Event in Lima

On April 12th and 13th, the 1st International Gastronomy Congress took place in Lima. The Senior Editor of Food Inspiration offers his opinions on the burgeoning subject of food, not only in Peru but on an international level.

Frank Linder, the Senior Editor, asserts that food is becoming more political. He insists that by looking at ingredients, portion sizes, preparation styles, etc, that much can be said about what´s going on behind the scenes in a country´s politics.

Thousands enjoy the famous Pachamanca dish in Peru

The Cuasimodo Regional Fair recently took place in Huancayo, where cooks began preparing the famous Pachamanca dish at 3:00 that morning.

Pachamanca is a famous dish that uses many meats and vegetables. It is cooked underground using hot rocks and seasonings. The hot rocks are placed in a hole in the ground to create a make-shift oven and the meat is covered with corn leaves to create a roasting effect.

Almost 8,000 people attended the event and had the opportunity to eat Pachamanca. (more…)

Peruvian Cuisine continues to grow

On Tuesday, March 29th, the National Gastronomy Association will host a forum about the future of Peruvian Cuisine. It will occur in the Chiclayo Municipality´s auditorium.

This forum is a precursor to a more formal international congress that will take place in mid-April. Chiclayo is well-situated to have a regional meeting about the subject before the formal meeting next month.

The forum is entitled, ´´New Challenges of Peruvian Cuisine,´´ and will involve many leaders that are interested in the future of Peru´s famous food. (more…)

Peruvian Pisco won a gold medal in Russia!

The 11th and the 12th of February this year the 23rd International Exhibition for Food expo was held in Moscow. During this event the Russian Federation Ministry of Agriculture awarded the Peruvian “pisco macerado” and “maca” with a gold medal, and the “Chulpi corn” with a silver medal.

Local and traditional products from 64 countries were displayed at the exhibition. Both the Peruvian products stood out during the International Tasting Contest to find the best product, and won the gold and silver medals. (more…)

Eat Ceviche before you die!

The U.S website PureWow about lifestyle, with 4 million readers, included the Peruvian dish ceviche in their “21 things all foodies need to eat before they die”.

The Peruvian ceviche was placed on number 3 on the list on the PureWow website. The dishes included in the list are recommended to be eaten in the country of origin.

The article recommends people to combine the ceviche with the Peru’s National Drink: Pisco sour. (more…)

Peruvian food is on its way to Paris

Peruvian´s most famous chef, Gaston Acurio, is heading to Paris to open a new restaurant. The restauarant is called Manko and is located on Montaigne Avenue, just beside a theater. Customers will experience Peru´s famous gastronomy in an auction hall that boasts a rugged atmosphere.

Acurio declared it a ´´space devoted to leisure that will bring Peruvian rejoicing, fun and sensuality to Paris.´´ Acurio owns 45 restaurants that are located in 11 different countries. As he is considered one of the top-notch chefs in Latin America, it is exciting that he will be taking his famous cuisine to Paris. (more…)

Peru participates in the cooking world cup in Mexico

Peru is participating in a high level cooking competition in Mexico City. The competition, Bocuse d´Or will take place at Sirha Fair.

There are a total of ten countries involved, and all have chefs competing for a ticket in the Grande Finale in Lyon in 2017. The competition requires preparing two dishes in a period of 5 hours and 30 minutes. The chefs representing Peru are Palmiro Ocampo and Anthony Castro.

These Peruvian chefs plan to prepare a dish that features a type of fish and that symbolizes the joining together of two cultures: Japan and Peru. (more…)

Peruvian Film ´´Finding Gaston´´ on US Netflix

A documentary titled ´´Finding Gaston´´ is a film that features Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio and his famous cuisine. The documentary has traveled all around the world and has now reached American Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon.

The film was released two years ago in Peru, in Lima, and continues to gain momentum at all sorts of festivals, celebrations, and studies across the planet.

It has also reached TV channels in Japan, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Korea, and Germany. (more…)
