International children’s Climate Prize won by Peruvian Child

The Peruvian child Jose Quisocala is the winner of th 2018 Children’s Climate Prize! This prize is handed out annually by the Swedish company Telgre Energi, that focusses mainly on producing renewable energy. 13 year old Jose got his price during a ceremony in Stockholm.

The Peruvian boy Quisocala won the price with is so-called eco-bank: a banking system that stimulates children to recycle more. When children hand in their recycled materials they would get special “eco-credits” which can be used to buy products (more…)

Peru Projected as Quickest Growing Economy South America

The World Bank projected Peru as the quickest growing economy in South America in a recent study. The study, released on April 18th, predicted that Peru´s GDP will experience a 3.7% growth in the year 2017.

While this number is strong, Peru was originally predicted to a growth of 4.3% and 4.2% over the next two years. However, this number was lowered due to the unexpected floods that recently devastated the country´s northern coast.

New Records in Peru’s Banana Exports

New Records in Peru’s Banana Exports were reached between October 2016 and January 2017. In total, exports reached US$128.8 million, which is an increase of 7% from the same period of the year before.

A year ago, the industry experienced a 7.6% growth. The major country who imports Peru´s bananas is the Netherlands, which leads this ranking with around 33.6% of all the shipments. The United States follows closely with 30.2% of all the shipments.

Next two years will prove that Peru has fastest growing economy in South America

The Central Reserve Bank of Peru recently announced that Peru´s economy will grow 4% this year and is expected to grow 4.5% next year. This will make Peru the country with the fastest growing economy in all of South America.

The Governor of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, Julio Velarde, asserted that growth is predicted to continue even in 2018 at a rate of 4.2%.

He says of his country´s growth: ´´Peru´s economy will be the fastest-growing of all South American nation in 2016 (4%) and 2017 (4.5%), underpinned by private investment, which is set to recover and expand 5% next year.´´ (more…)

Peru´s Government will Promote Growth through Tourism

Peru´s Prime Minister, Fernando Zavala, declared that the new government will rely heavily on tourism to promote growth and build the economy.

Zavala made these statements as he addressed Congress with the intent to build confidence in the new government´s plans. These plans include increasing foreign tourists in Peru to 7 million by 2021, which is double the 3.5 million foreigners that entered Peru last year.

Additionally, the Prime Minister declared to RPP radio station, ´´We want to prioritize tourism, because this is where we can create new sources of growth and new jobs for Peru.´´ (more…)

Peru´s new president aims to double tourism in the next 5 years

Peru sees around 3.5 million tourists come into the country each year. Though this is an impressive statistic, the new president, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, aims to double this number in the next five years.
The new governmental regime plans to implement strategies to increase tourism to Peru, which they claim will increase jobs, promote trade, and better Peru´s economy in general.

PPK says of this plan, ´´We are going to double tourist flow over five years. I believe, and maybe this is a little optimistic, that it must become our goal: doubling tourism, that is going to bring additional revenue worth between US$4 and US$5 billion.´´ (more…)

Peru´s New President to Improve Water and Sanitation

President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski was recently sworn-in as the President of Peru at the end of July. Peru awaits eagerly to see what his administration will put as priority.

One of the themes that PPK and his fellow governmental leaders have deemed as important is the water situation in Peru. PPK plans to create a national program to provide access to clean water and other sanitation services to thousands of Peruvians.

PPK asserts that this program will not only improve water and sanitation, but it will create half a million jobs in the next few years. (more…)

Peru’s economic growth is declared to be impressive

The Ford Foundation Professor at Harvard University, Dani Rodrik. Rodrik is a professor of International Economy at the well-known institution in the United States. His particular interests reside in globalization and political economic development.

As he studied the growth trends of Peru, he declared it to be amazing that it has reached an expansion rate above 3% in the current state of the global economy.

He asserted this claim by explaining that a 3% growth rate is more than several developed countries. (more…)

Peru: the second fastest growing economy in 2016

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has estimated that Peru´s economy with grow by 3.8% in 2016. This would make Peru the second fastest growing economy in South America for this year.

ECLAC had previously announced an estimate of 3.4% growth, but recently increased this claim this past Friday. It projected Bolivia to have the largest growth with 4.5%, with Peru following with 3.8%. Colombia will grow by 2.9%, Paraguay by 2.8%, Chile by 1.6%, and Uruguay by 0.5%. (more…)

Peru prioritizes long-term growth

Peru recently signed an agreement with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development that seek long-term growth in Peru.

Alonso Segura, the Minister of Economy and Finance, is overseeing these agreements. He asserts that they will better Peru´s economy and provide more resources to all.

The agreements also work as a type of insurance for Peru as unexpected events and other risks sometimes shake the economy. Whether that be a natural disaster or an international problem, Peru will have more security. (more…)

Peru joins International Social Tourism Organization

Peru recently received the Joining Certificate from the International Social Tourism Organization (ISTO). Peru is now officially a member of the ISTO and will continue to pursue social tourism development policies.

Peru received the certificate at the First National Forum on Social Tourism in Lima. During this convention there were more than 200 local attendees from public and private sectors, and also foreign speakers participated in the discussion about Social Tourism development.

All worry can now be put to rest…Peru has officially returned to the International Coffee Organization!

The International Coffee Organization unites exporting and importing countries in overcoming the challenges of coffee sector. 95% of countries who produce coffee and 83% of consuming nations are members of this organization.

The International Coffee Organization recently held is 116th meeting in Ethiopia. It was here that Peruvian Ambassador´s Claudio de la Puente reconfirmed Peru´s participation in the organization. (more…)
