Mancora: Dream or Nightmare?

Is Mancora a dream or a nightmare? Tourists and locals are asking themselves this while experiencing Peru’s city along the North coast. On one hand, it is a fun town, populated with lots of surfers, but on the other hand, the lazy authorities avoid abiding by the laws.

In addition, the beaches are packed with parties, pets, ATVs and informal vendors, but also have many restaurants, bars and clubs in order to entertain many tourists. There is a lack of development and infrastructure in this region, and tourists apparently disobey the laws and trash the beaches. (more…)

Peru has its first cloned animal

Peru has officially cloned its first animal! Peruvian researchers Luis Murga Valderrama and Jenin Cortez Polanco achieved this new development.

They used scientist Gabor Vajta´s method, the Hand Cloning method. The scientists completed this amazing feat at the National University Toribio Rodriguez de Mendoza.

The cloned cow was born this past July and is named Alma C1. As to be expected, this first animal clone has changed the perspective of many Peruvian scientists and has sparked interest among Peruvian people. (more…)

Arequipa Prepares for Anniversary

On August 15th Arequipa celebrates its Anniversary every year. This year marks the 476th Anniversary of Peru´s White City.

The city has already started celebrating its Anniversary with many festivities on August 1st. Some celebrations include the ringing of the Cathedral´s bell and the raising of Arequipa´s patriotic symbols.
Numerous leaders gathered at the event, including Arequipa´s mayor Alfredo Zegarra. Furthermore, Peru´s new president, PPK, will visit the city on Sunday, August 14th.

Tourism created 1.3 million jobs last year

Tourism is contributing to the expanding employment opportunities in Peru. In fact, the Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister, Magali Silva, announced that the tourism industry created 1.3 jobs in 2015.

The Tourism Satellite Account, which is a method to measure tourism, has declared that tourism accounts for 3.9% of Peru´s GDP. Tourism GDP totaled $7 billion in 2015. Furthermore, the cumulative growth in the past four years was 23.9%.

Whether it´s a restaurant, a hotel, transportation, or communication systems, everything is affected by tourism. (more…)

Peru offers a more diversified tourist activities

The ministry of Foreign trade and tourism in Peru announced 75 tourism products from 25 different regions for Peruvian travel agents and tour operators who all came together at the Regional Tourism Products Workshop in Lima this year.

In 2014, 25 projects were successfully introduced; the remaining 50 tourism projects are still under implementation.

New tourists sectors

According to the head of tourism in Peru, the development of these tourist products helps to diversify the Peruvian offer by creating new tourists-circuits throughout Peru. (more…)

Peru and Malaga work together on tourism & gastronomy

The minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism in Peru has stated that the authorities in Peru and Malaga will work together on tourist development, gastronomy and investment issues.

The Peruvian minister met with the president of the county council of Malaga during the annual meeting of the World Tourism Organization. This meeting is meant to exchanges experiences and learn about the tourism models and investment and export opportunities and strategies.

The minister noted that Peru has been working hard to turn tourism into a source of employment and income for the country. (more…)

Peru prioritizes long-term growth

Peru recently signed an agreement with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development that seek long-term growth in Peru.

Alonso Segura, the Minister of Economy and Finance, is overseeing these agreements. He asserts that they will better Peru´s economy and provide more resources to all.

The agreements also work as a type of insurance for Peru as unexpected events and other risks sometimes shake the economy. Whether that be a natural disaster or an international problem, Peru will have more security. (more…)

Peru joins International Social Tourism Organization

Peru recently received the Joining Certificate from the International Social Tourism Organization (ISTO). Peru is now officially a member of the ISTO and will continue to pursue social tourism development policies.

Peru received the certificate at the First National Forum on Social Tourism in Lima. During this convention there were more than 200 local attendees from public and private sectors, and also foreign speakers participated in the discussion about Social Tourism development.

The Social Tourism concept has been promoted since 2015. (more…)

Peru and the UK unite for science

Starting in July of last year and running to the end of this month, a program was initiated to create and develop science and technology. The session that was held last week in Lima was part of the Science and Innovation Program and was administrated by the UK Embassy, the British Council, and Peru´s Concytec.

With a fund of $600,000, researchers will develop projects that improve the welfare of both Peru and the UK.

Last Wednesday, March 16th, many leaders of both Peru and the United Kingdom were present at a meeting that discussed ties between the two countries. (more…)
