Gastronomy Arequipa One of the Best of South America

CNN Travel has recently published a list with the best food destinations in the world. And one of the destinations on the list is the Peruvian city of Arequipa. Arequipa, also nicknamed ‘the White City’ is praised for its distinctive food, which is a blend of Peruvian food and food from elsewhere.

To wit, Arequipa’s gastronomy is a fusion between centuries-old pre-Columbian recipes, the ones of the Incas and later with the ones of Spain as well. This means that the cuisine got its influence from many different sources (more…)

Pope to Eat Ceviche during Visit to Peru

Ceviche, the flagship dish of Peru and Peruvian cuisine, will be one of the dishes that Pope Francisco will taste during his visit to the country between January 18 and 21.

The Apostolic Nuncio in Peru, Nicola Girasoli, reported that, based on the humility and simplicity that characterizes him, the Supreme Pontiff always asks that typical dishes of the country he visits be included. Peruvian Chefs Serve Ceviche in New York´s Times Square

Several chefs from Peru recently promoted the country´s culinary culture as they distributed ceviche in New York´s Times Square. Spreading Peruvian culture with music, they made even the most shy of New Yorkers dance while they enjoyed their food. The video of the event posted on Facebook has gone viral with over seventy thousand hits in one day.

Peru Celebrates National Ceviche Day

On Wednesday June 28th, Peruvians celebrated ceviche day all across Peru. Being the country´s national dish, it is the favorite of many.

The Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Juan Requejo, announced the statistic that over 70% of people that prepare ceviche in Lima make it with bluefish.

The most common blue and white fish caught in Peru are dolphinfish and hake. Most families prepare ceviche with these options because they are available and affordable. (more…)

The U.S website PureWow about lifestyle, with 4 million readers, included the Peruvian dish ceviche in their “21 things all foodies need to eat before they die”.

The Peruvian ceviche was placed on number 3 on the list on the PureWow website. The dishes included in the list are recommended to be eaten in the country of origin.

Chez Wong´s Ceviche is Declared the Best in the World

One of the most revered dishes of Peru is its ceviche, a dish made out of raw fish, citrus juices, ají, chili peppers, and onions. Recently the ceviche of the famous restaurant, Chez Wong, in Lima was declared the tastiest dish in the world by the Chowzter Fast Feasts awards in London. The nominations of these great dishes are made by local food experts and bloggers and were tested by a tasting team.
