Peru’s Rural Destinations for One-Day Trips

Holidays like the 1st of May or other national festivities, are a good possibility to do a one-day trip to a rural destination in Peru. In the following, this article will present the 5 destinations that were named by the Mincetur, Peru’s Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry.

Humacchuco, in the Ancash region, is situated in the Huascaran National Park. Tourists visiting this destination are able to see traditional dances and learn about agricultural activities in the region. They can also try the Pachamanca, a traditional dish from that region. (more…)

Chiclayo expects over 30,000 visitors during Expo Peru Norte 2018

Probably over 30,000 visitors will visit the “Expo Peru Norte 2018” which will take place in Chiclayo, from the 26th to the 29th of April.

Since Lambayeque was affected by the Coastal El Niño phenomenon in 2017, the Peruvian government now aims at enhancing the reactivation of the Northern Region by presenting it as one of the top tourist destinations in Peru.

Cajamarca: Celebrations in the Capital of Carnival

On the 10th of February, Cajamarca, the capital of Carnival, initiated its celebrations with the Ño Carnavalón (“Rey Momo”), a puppet with a big head that represents “the farewell to the bad vibes.” While carrying the puppet through the city, assistants of the festival were thrown with water buckets, inks, and talc.

After four days of carnival, Cajamarca ended last Tuesday its celebrations with a five-hour parade showing various delegations. Each of them was wearing traditional costumes. (more…)

Pre-Incan Artifacts Discovered in Cajamarca

Pre-Incan artifacts were recently discovered in province of Cajamarca by a group of tourists visiting the Ilucan Hill.

What the tourists found was 100 different pieces of metal that seemed to belong a certain collection. The tourists then handed over these artifacts to the Municipality of Cutervo.

These pieces of metal were confirmed to be pre-incan gold by the Peruvian archaeologist, Walter Alva. Alva marveled at the fact that the pieces were not only original, but very well preserved as well. (more…)

Thousands to Flock to Cajamarca for Carnival

Each year, February marks the Carnival season in Peru. Thousands are expected to flock to the Cajamarca region for Carnival this year.

In fact, more than 10,000 tourists are expected to travel to the Cajamarca region for this time of year. As many as 15,000 visitors may end up traveling here for the festivities.

As hostels and hotels fill up so quickly, many people stay with family or friends, or also rent houses so they can be present at this famous month-long event.

Cajamarca´s Carnival Attendance Predicted to be 12,000

Carnival in Cajamarca, beginning January 23 and ending February 10, expects many tourists for its annual festivities. The Cajamarca Regional Chamber of Tourism predicts 12,000 attendees this year.

As one of the most important events in Cajamarca, many people flock to the city to experience the well-known party in a local setting. President Sergio Caceres Quispe asserts that 50% of hotels are already reserved, and he expects the other half to be booked quickly.

First Saturday of Cajamarca Carnival 2015

The Cajamarca Carnival, known as Peru’s most important carnival, of this year started.

Last Saturday morning the carnival was kicked off outside the Municipal facilities and people from all over the city celebrated the annual event in the parade that took place in the historic center. The organizers leaded the spectacle accompanied by a band.

Cajamarca´s Carnival Helps the Local Economy

When touring Peru, you must attend one of its colorful festivities. One of the greatest celebrations can be found in Cajamarca in northern Peru, lasting a couple of weeks.

This year Cajamarca´s Carnival was from February 18th to March 5th, bringing excitement to the city with its many contests and dances.

This year the number of tourists at the Carnival increased tremendously, from around 8,000 visitors in 2013 to 15,000 visitors in 2014.

Peru promotes Northern Amazonian Route

Representatives of the regional chambers of tourism and business associations came together in the Northern Peruvian city Cajamarca to discuss the promotion of the Northern Amazonian Route to a major tourist spot.

They decided to do research for potential markets, work out a marketing plan, attract investors and increase the tourism safety.

Cajamarca’s 2014 Carnival opens at the Government Palace in Lima

Cajamarca, a city in the north of Peru, is known as the Peruvian capital of carnival. The month-long carnival in Cajamarca takes place every year in the months of February and March.

Last Saturday started the 2014 edition and this year there was something special about the opening: because of the program “Palace for Everybody”, the openings ceremony was held this year on the esplanade of the presidential palace.
