Best Attractions To Visit In Arequipa

It is almost time for the annual Alpaca Fiesta in Peru to be celebrated again! This event hails the whole Peruvian alpaca industry, from the production of warm clothes to the consumption of its meat. Gastronomy Arequipa One of the Best of South America

CNN Travel has recently published a list with the best food destinations in the world. And one of the destinations on the list is the Peruvian city of Arequipa. Arequipa, also nicknamed ‘the White City’ is praised for its distinctive food, which is a blend of Peruvian food and food from elsewhere.

Colca Valley stays the most popular tourism destination of Arequipa

The Colca Canyon has been Arequipa’s main tourist attraction for years already. However, due to a rapid increase of tourism arrivals, the canyon has strengthened its position as a most-visited tourism destination in this region. To wit, the valley received nearly 20% more tourists between the months January and September of 2018 compared to the same months last year. So far, the Colca Canyon has received nearly 225.000 visitors this year, compared to last year’s 180.000 visitors. (more…)

More and More Tourists Visiting Colca Canyon

The Colca Canyon, located in Southern Peru, is profiling itself more and more as an important tourist destination in Peru. Nearly 35.000 tourists visited this deep gorge last August. These numbers announced by the director of the Colca region David Valdivia.

This means that the Colca Canyon continues its positive tourism trend of last year, when nearly 33.000 tourists visited the canyon. In other words, approximately 1000 tourists visit this natural phenomenon every day.

Cities most visited In Peru last weekend

According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), around 760 000 Peruvian people traveled for this long weekend. Lima was the most visited city in the country.

From Friday, June 29 to Sunday, July 01, the festivities of San Pedro and San Pablo are celebrated in Peru. Holidays like these make people travel, which results in economic impacts, in the case, around $70 million US dollars.

Lunahuaná, in Lima, was the most visited city, followed by La Libertad. The third most visited region was Cusco (more…)

Asian Tour Operators Get to Know Peru

PromPeru, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board of the country, invited tour operators from China, India and Japan to Peru in order to increase tourist arrivals from Asia. These operators got an insight into Peru’s natural as well as cultural diversity, its gastronomy and hotel infrastructure.

In total, three groups came to Peru. All of them took part in business rounds of Peru Travel Mart that were organized in Lima from the 27th to the 29th of April.

Cotahuasi Canyon: New Tourist Destination in Southern Peru?

According to the Peruvian Newspaper La República, the Colca Canyon and the Cotahuasi Canyon are breathtaking destinations providing an amazing flora and fauna, culture and a landscape that is among the most beautiful in the Andes.

Both canyons are located in Arequipa, the beautiful colonial “whity city” of Peru. The Cotahuasi Canyon is a National Landscape Reserve in the province of La Union and claims to be a Natural World Heritage Site. (more…)

Colca Valley – main attraction on UGART Tourism Business Fair

The Colca Valley Autonomous Authority (Autocolca) represented the Colca Valley at the 33rd UGART Tourism Business Fair that took place in Porto Alegre the 2nd and 3rd of March showing the landscapes, customs and typical dances of the Valley by providing an information stand.

For the exhibition, Autocolca used audiovisual materials as well as flyers, souvenirs, maps and other information about the Colca Valley.

Arequipa Presents New Logo to Boost Local Tourism

Last week, the regional governor of Arequipa, Yamila Osorio, presented the new logo of the Marca Destino Arequipa (Arequipa Destination Brand) at a meeting with local entrepreneurs. The new logo seeks to promote tourism development in the Arequipa region. Moreover, the goal of the new logo is to work together with the public and private sector to put Arequipa in the international spotlights.

The local promotion agency “Promarequipa” organized a contest for citizens to draw their new logo for the city of Arequipa. (more…)

Arequipa plans Tour to climb Misti Volcano

Right in time for its anniversary, the city of Arequipa is planning a new tour that leads tourists up the famous Misti Volcano.

Misti Volcano, in the south of Peru, is located in the immediate vicinity of the city of Arequipa. The volcano dominates the cityscape with its prominent cone shape and is therefore considered a landmark of Arequipa.

Now, Arequipa’s Macro Region Police are getting ready to set up a tourist circuit to climb the 5822m (19.101 ft.) high volcano.
