About two weeks ago, a new discovery was found in the surrounding areas of Machu Picchu. Although the site was discovered over a century ago, the region is still producing surprises!

Cusco´s Cultural Department was exploring the areas around the famous Incan city and they found paintings that are believed to be older than the Incas.

The said paintings consist of the figures of a llama, a man, and another image. They were discovered on a road that leads straight to Machu Picchu.

In this same site at the beginning of the 20th century, Yale students discovered numerous graves while exploring with Hiram Bingham. Due to the dense plant growth, the paintings had remained undiscovered until recently.

The area will be closed until further notice to provide researchers the opportunity to excavate and preserve the paintings.
