After the summer Olympics just ended, sports are at the forefront of most people´s minds. Even PPK, the new president, has made a statement about investing in sports in Peru.
One of his goals is to provide more opportunities for free sports, and also to diversify the sports that are played in Peru, in addition to soccer and volleyball. He also plans to create a Ministry of Youth and Sports with the intent to get children started with sports early in life.
Doing this will require financial support, which PPK has thought through. In fact, he plans to talk with the Peruvian Sports Institute and other organizations to possibly provide more funding for the sports community.
He comments on his plans, ´´The budget debate will be held in the following days; I´m going to push the Peruvian Sports Institute-IPD and firms to provide more support to sports, for sure. I think a three-fold increase (in the budget) will be difficult to achieve, a two-fold hike is more likely.´´
With the prospect of more funding for sports, Peru´s potential for sports improves. In addition, PPK has had several meetings to organize the 2019 Pan American Games that will take place in Lima.
