Pope Francis is very enthusiastic about his visit to Peru scheduled for next year, said President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski last week. The president of Peru was welcomed by Pope Francis at the Vatican last week ahead of the Pope´s official visit to take place in January 2018.
“He came from Colombia very happy about his visit there, and is very excited about his visit to Peru. He has only been to Peru twice and the truth is he is very happy,” remarked the president.
He also said that the Pope was very interested in addressing the problems surrounding the Madre de Dios River, including the destruction of forests, the human trafficking of children and women and illegal mining in the region.
According to PPK, it was a “magnificent conversation” that he had with Francisco, in which they also addressed the progress of society and poverty reduction.
Pope Francis will visit Lima, where he will be greeted by up to five million excited Peruvians, and will then travel to Puerto Maldonado and Trujillo. He will be the second pope to visit Peru after John Paul II visited Peru on two separate occasions, in 1985 and 1988.
