The US Department of Homeland Security declared last week that Peru would start the procedure of applying for the Visa Waiver Program.Jorge Jochamowitz Rodriguez, the president of the Peruvian Chamber of Tourism, Canatur, believes that, if the US accepts a Visa Waiver for Peruvian citizens, tourism between Peru and the United States would rise significantly. He is convinced that the Peruvian visits in the US could expand by 20% and moreover that US tourist arrivals in Peru could increase by 6%. But Peru will have to be patient because it is going to take time before the procedure will be finished. The US recently accepted a Visa Waiver for Chile after a process of two to three years.
