Peruvian Football Fans nominated for FIFA’s Fan Award!
During the Last World Cup in July 2018, over 40.000 Peruvian football supporters went to Russia to cheer for the Peruvian National Team. This didn’t go unnoticed. It’s more: the fans got nominated for the FIFA Football Awards in the category “Best Fans”.
The first two losses of the Peruvian National Squad didn’t bother the fans much, as they kept on giving their team extraordinary support. That’s why the Peruvian fans are seen as the best support group by many.
However, the competition for Peru is harsh, as they compete against the fanbase of both Japan and Senegal. These fans stayed after the matches of their team to clean up the stadium. The last opponent is a very loyal Chilean fan, who traveled nearly 1500 kilometers to support his local club on the other side of the country.
People from are over the world can vote via the official website of FIFA. The winner gets announced during a ceremony in London that is held on the 24th of September.
Peru in the World Cup
Peru participated in the World Cup of 2018 again after an absence of 36 years. Unfortunately, Peru lost the first two matches during this event. This did mean that Peru did not have any chance left to proceed into the next round. However, this didn’t affect the fans nor the team of Peru, as they defeated Australia with a stunning 2-0 in their last World Cup game. This has been the first World Cup win for Peru in 40 years.
