Peru, Second Largest Copper Producer worldwide
As second largest copper producer in the world, Peru obtained 12% of the global copper deposits in 2017. Apart from the huge amount of copper, Peru also owns 18% of the world’s silver reserves and is the main gold, zinc and lead producer in Latin America.
Peru is the only country that could increase its global copper production in 2017. Furthermore, Peru’s Central Reserve Bank supposes that the metallic mining sector will experience a 4.2% real growth rate in 2018.
In 2018, Peru sponsored the PDAC Convention 2018, an event by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada that took place in Toronto from the 4th till the 7th of March. The event was attended by more than 280 mining executives, businessmen and public officers.
Martin Vizcarra, Peru’s Fist Vice-President and Ambassador to Canada, Jorge Leon Benavides, head of the delegation of national executives, as well as Jose Vizquerra, President of the Canada-Peru Chamber of Commerce, represented Peru during the event. Apart from that, the Energy and Mines Minister Angela Grossheim, Economy and Finance Minister Claudia Cooper and Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry authorities participated.
