Peru is in the running for World Travel Awards!

Peru was nominated 37 times At the World Travel Awards (WTA) from 2016 , within the South American Region; Promperu is nominated for South America’s Leading Tourist Board.

The World Travel Awards have been gaining importance since 1993. The WTA is a good way to measure the excellence of the travel and tourism industry. Qualified executives and consumer travel buyers from all over the world can vote online to select a winner.

There has been a huge increase in nominations from 7 in 2015 to 37 in 2016. Lima and Peru usually participate, but this time Peru’s tourism branch was surprised by the amount of nominations.

The categories in which Peru will be competing against other South American countries this year are: Leading Cultural Destination, Leading Adventure Tourism Destination, Leading Green Destination and Leading Culinary Destination.

Lima is nominated for Leading Destination, Leading Business Travel Destination, Leading City Break Destination and Leading Meetings and Conferences Destination.

These nominations will help the country promote its tourism industry and position itself as major tourist destination in the area. PromPeru, developed by the Peruvian Government, also got a nomination. Promperu was developed to help turn tourism into a development and social inclusion tool.

The Jorge Chavez International Airport received a nomination for Leading Airport and for Leading Private Jet Charter.

In the category hotels: Casa Andina Private Collection Valle Sagrado and Las Casitas del Colca received a nomination for Leading Boutique Hotel, and Belmond Miraflores Park, Hilton, Marriot, and Meliá Lima are nominated for Leading Business Hotel.

And the following Travel Agencies received a nomination for Adventure Life: Andean Treks, Condor Travel, CTM Tours, Inca Natura Travel and Kuoda Travel Private Tours.

Voting is possible until the 6th of May. And the Peruvian minister has asked all the Peruvian nationals to vote and support the local participants.

The World Travel Awards gala ceremony will take place in Lima this year in Swissotel Hotel on the 1st of July. The grand final gala ceremony will take place in the Maldives later this year.
