Peru will organize the first ever International Symposium on Cocoa Research. The official sponsor of this event will be the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO).
According to members of the ICCO, Peru is the perfect country in which to host such an event, stating, “Peru has one of the highest diversities of cocoa germplasm in the world and boasts of cocoa-related archaeological centers that attract tourists from
all over the world.¨
Furthermore, Peru is one of the biggest producers of cocoa in the world.
This event is expected to draw at least 500 participants from all of the world. Some of the countries that plan to attend are Mexico, Brazil, Ghana, and the Ivory Coast.
The overall goal of the event is to provide a space for interaction, exchange and possibly even collaboration between local producers from the different cocoa-producing countries.
The event is scheduled to be held in Lima at the end of this year from November 13-17.
