The Peruvian National Team continued their fight to qualify for the World Cup in Russia in 2018 thanks to their triumph Thursday 2-1 over Bolivia. The win pushes them to sixth place with 21 points.
Édison Flores and Christian Cueva both scored goals from outside the area just four minutes into the second half while a goal by Bolivia´s Gilbert Alvarez in the 75th minute added some extra excitement at the end of the match.
Bolivia, seeking to take revenge after the recent decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport not to return the four points won against Peru and Chile in the first round of the qualifying rounds, will be left out of the World Cup again for sixth consecutive time.
Peru´s Andre Carrillo dribbled to the touch line and crossed it into the box where it was poorly cleared by Bolivia´s defense. The ball then fell at the feet of Edison Flores, who delivered a strong left-footed shot from the front of the area to score the first goal of the match. Just four minutes later, Christian Cueva emulated Flores´s shot to extend Peru´s advantage, only this time with his right foot.
Bolivia managed to cut the lead to 1 and, in extra time, missed a great opportunity as Peru held on to whatever chance it has left to qualify for the tournament in Russia.
