Gladys Tejeda, Peruvian long distance runner, ran her best race at the World Half Marathon Championships Cardiff 2016. With a time of 1:10:14, she broke the South American record and ended up taking ninth place in the race.

Tejeda has raced previous World Half Marathons, but has never made the top ten. In 2010 she took 21st place and in 2014 she took 21st place. This recent race puts her as one of the front-runners in the long-distance category.

The race took place in Welsh city, and Tejeda is the first non-African to race the World Half Marathon in this location.

This new win has put the Peruvian athlete in a positive position for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. She participated in the 2012 London Olympic Games, but now she looks for greater success as the Games approach in Rio.
