An NGO is strategizing a plan to preserve the Pachacamac ruins, 30 miles outside of the heart of Lima.
The ruins are located in a part of the city that is rapid expanding. As a result, the ruins are threatened by illegal land grabs and vandalism.
In order to combat this, local residents created the NGO Sustainable Preservation Initiative (SPI). SPI works to educate people on the history and importance of the site.
The NGO has also partnered with local women in order to provide them with a space to sell their handicrafts related to the site.
