National Chamber of Tourism speaks about Rainbown Mountain situation
President of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), Carlos Canales, expressed his concern about the management of one of the most touristic places in Peru: Winicunka, better known as The Rainbow Mountain, located in the Cusco Region.
According to the NGO CooperAcción, the mountain was commissioned by INGEMMET in favour of the mining company Minquest Peru, owned by Canadian firm Camino Minerals. This mountain is in the Ausangate Regional Conversation Area.
Canales also confirmed that the Vinicunca will remain untouched and its sustainability is guaranteed.
The amount of visitors at the Rainbown Mountain has increased since 2016. Nowadays, around one thousands tourist visit it every day, and has allowed economic development, as well as employment in the area.
Canales assured that they will be coordinating the safety of visitors in the area with Peruvian Association of Adventure Tourism, Ecotourism and Specialized Tourism (Aptae) and Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
