Larco Museum Lima one of the best 25 museums worldwide!
Lima’s Larco Museum has been chosen as one of the best museums in the world in a list released by the biggest traveling site in the world Tripadvisor. The museum listed 20th on the list, which contains a total of 25 museums all around the world; two places higher than last year.
The Larco Museum is the first Peruvian site ever included in the ranking. Tripadvisor praises the museum for being more than just an exposition of various kinds of ceramics. The Director of the Larco Museum, Andres Alvarez-Calderon, confirms this. He states that the museum offers a unique tourism experience in Lima which tells more about Peru’s history in a very appealing way.
Museums are often the main attraction of tourism destinations. The Musée d’Orsay in Paris ranked first in the list for example. Other listed museums include the National Gallery in London, the Prado in Madrid and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
According to Alvarez-Calderon, the ranking offers a great opportunity for other museums in Peru as well. Due to this list, more and more people will know about the extensive culture the ancient Inca country has to offer. This reminds people that Peru is more than just Machu Picchu. Other museums in the Peruvian capital include the Pedro de Osma Museum, the Amani museum and the Lima Art Museum (MALI).
Additionally, Lima will get a new significant museum, named National Pachacamac Museum. This museum is expected to be one of the main attractions of Lima right after its opening, due to its size and collection.
The Larco Museum itself also has a huge collection of pre-Columbian art as well. In total, the museum holds more than 45.000 ancient objects. These objects are exhibited in an old colonial building of the 18th century. The whole museum is surrounded by stunning gardens and definitely worth a visit when traveling to Lima and in Peru.
