The Bid Evaluation Committee of the International World Games Association (IWGA) visited Lima for the World Games of 2012. Lima, Peru is one of the three potential host cities. Lima competes with Birmingham (USA) and Ufa (Russia) to host the eleventh edition of the World Games. This event brings more than 25 non-Olympic sports together.
During the meeting held at the Westin Lima Hotel, Jose Quinones, President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP) said: “It will be another great opportunity to extend the legacy of sport for the city of Lima.”
To host the Games in 2021, Lima has demonstrated a strong case to the Evaluation Committee of the International World Games Association (IWGA) reinforcing its intentions. A visit to the National Stadium, a four hour technical presentation and a meeting with the Ana Maria Solorzano, President of Congress were included. Solorzano reaffirmed the Government’s intention to support sport.
“It would add another great opportunity and challenge to demonstrate to the world the country’s commitment to sport which includes the first big challenge of the XVIII Pan American Games 2019, if Lima were successful in this bid”, said Quinones. He added: “We want to leave a legacy for the youth and children after The World Games.”
A different sports program will be enhanced, and will include Non-Olympic sports such as Surfing, Karate, Floor Hockey, Lacrosse, Boule, Bowling, and many other disciplines.
Next January in Lausanne, Switzerland, the final decision will be made.
