Interesting places to visit in Peru

Stunning natural scenes, intriguing culture, delicious gastronomy and friendly people, Peru has it all. It is not for nothing that Peru is booming in terms of tourism. The variety of the country is pulling more and more people to the old Inca country. There are dry deserts, green forests, amazing beaches and high mountains to be found here.

Here’s a short list of the most important tourist attractions in Peru that you cannot miss during your trip in this wonderful country.

Machu Picchu

It isn’t a surprise that Machu Picchu makes the list of top attractions in Peru. The old Inca Citadel has been chosen as one of the seven modern wonders of the world for a reason! The view over the lost Inca town is certainly stunning and a trip to Machu Picchu is a unforgettable experience for sure.


Lima is the capital is Peru and has become an important cultural tourism destination over the past years. Due to its high offer of museums, food and history Lima is one of the most interesting places to visit in South America.

What to see in Lima

Nazca Lines

The Nazca Lines are another famous site in Peru. In total there are approximately 1000 lines made in the desert that cover 450 square kilometers. No one really knows why these Nazca lines were made and it is likely that we never find out, as the lines were made over 5000 years ago.

The lines represent all kinds of things, like plants, animals and geometric figures. Some people think that these lines acted as a calendar, while other think it was used to spot constellations in the night sky.

These figures can be seen either from a tower, which was built at the side of the desert, or from a small airplane.

Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake on earth and is best known for its manmade floating islands. The culture on these islands have been preserved for hundreds of years and thus definitely worth a visit.

Kuelap Fortress

The Kuelap Fortress is relatively unknown to tourists, although that may change quickly due to the new cable car system that was built last year. The cable car brings you all up the mountain where you can find the Kuelap fortress, which was used to defend this region from intruders.

Rainbow Mountain

The Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca, is higher than 5000 meters. This special and stunning mountain range in the Ausangate region, nearby Cusco, gets its name from the many different colors displayed in its mountain peaks.

You can reach the peak after hiking a few hours. Needless to say the views are stunning.

The Amazon Rainforest

The rainforest offers the biggest variety of flora and fauna in all of Peru. Tourists can enjoy boat rides over the Amazon river and hikes through the jungle. All by all, a visit to the jungle is certainly a unique experience

Tropical beaches

Peru’s shore is one of the biggest and one of the most beautiful coasts in the world. However, it is not only the beaches that are amazing; it’s the wildlife around the coast is amazing as that attracts so many visitors. Tourists can spot whales, penguins and various tropical birds on the cost.
