The Peruvian Ines Melchor finished the 2016 Miami Half-Marathon with a record time of 1:13:53. This puts her as one of the frontrunners for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Melchor asserted that, though not at her best, she is satisfied with her strategy and her first victory of 2016. She posted the following: ´´Challenge met! Winning the first race of the year was important and it was achieved. Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. This victory is for you´´.
The second-place finisher was also a Peruvian, Rocio Cantara Rojas, and the third-place finisher was Lindsey Scherf of the USA.
It will be interesting to see what these ladies achieve as the Olympic Games draw closer!
