How long will Machu Picchu still be the most visited touristic site in Peru?

The ancient citadel is probably hard to push from its throne, but still, other, less visited sites in Peru are becoming more and more popular among both national and international tourists.

Particularly the Kuelap Archaeological Complex in the Amazonas might be a strong candidate for the second spot on the list of most visited touristic sights in Peru. Additionally, infrastructural works such as the Chachapoyas Airport runway expansion will even further facilitate the arrival of visitors.

Head of the National Chamber of Tourism (Cenatur), Fredy Gamarra states that apart from Kuelap, the Colca Canyon circuits in Arequipa, as well as the archaeological complexes of the ancient Moche culture on the Northern coast of Peru, have received an increase in visitors driven by both Peruvian and international tourists.
