Peruvian runner Gladys Tejeda was part of Peru´s 2016 Olympic team in Rio and saw great success in the last few days. In fact, she proved that she is among the world´s top 15 long-distance female runners.
Competing in the Women´s Marathon, a distance of 42 kilometers, Gladys Tejeda finished with a time of 2:29:55. This placed her in the top 15 runners and the best runner from Latin America.
Tejeda also participated in the 2012 London Olympics, where she placed 42nd in the same race. This huge improvement is a great career accomplishment for the 30 year old runner.
The top three in the Women´s Marathon Event were Jemima Sumgong of Kenya, Eunice Kirwa of Bahrain, and Mare Dibaba of Ethiopia.
Another Peruvian runner, Jovana de La Cruz, was Latin America´s second best runner in this event with a time of 2:35:49, placing her 36th. Peru should be proud of its representation in this running event in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
