A new frog species was recently discovered in Peru! The discovery was made in the Communal Reserve called Amarakaeri.
The new species was found to be poisonous, hence its name “Ameerega shihuemoy,” which means poisonous frog in the local language.
This frog is quite small, sizing under 3 cm. They are identified with their vibrant colors, marking them as poisonous in the animal world.
Scientists seek to continue to promote the protection of this area, and it is the home to new species that are fighting to survive.
Furthermore, the state-run National Service of Natural Protected Areas asserts Peru´s importance on an environmental level, as it is the home to a great deal of biodiversity.
