Arequipa, Peru, recently set a new record for the world´s largest rocoto relleno, also known as stuffed pepper, which is a typical Peruvian dish.
The dish consists of beef, onion, garlic, eggs, raisins and peanuts, along with the spicy rocoto. In this particular preparation of the dish, over two thousand rocotos were used.
The final rocoto relleno weighed 542 killos and 700 grams. This outweighed the dish holding the Guinness World Record by 200 kilos.
After confirming that the weight of the rocoto relleno exceeded the record holding weight, Arequipa was awarded with the Guinness Certficate.
The event was held in Arequipa´s Plaza de Armas, where Peruvians observed as the city made the new rocoto relleno world record. This recognition for Arequipa is just another way in which Peruvian gastronomy is expanding on a global level.
