Arequipa Presents New Logo to Boost Local Tourism
Last week, the regional governor of Arequipa, Yamila Osorio, presented the new logo of the Marca Destino Arequipa (Arequipa Destination Brand) at a meeting with local entrepreneurs. The new logo seeks to promote tourism development in the Arequipa region. Moreover, the goal of the new logo is to work together with the public and private sector to put Arequipa in the international spotlights.
The local promotion agency “Promarequipa” organized a contest for citizens to draw their new logo for the city of Arequipa. More than 200 proposals were submitted. A qualified jury and the people from Arequipa voted through the internet and eventually chose the winner.
The new Arequipa brand is a logo that represents the major tourist attractions such as the Colca Canyon and the Misti Volcano. Next, it represents the more important parts of the local nature like the condor, dessert, valleys, and rivers. Finally, it reflects the personality and potentials of the Arequipa region as recognized by its inhabitants. The new logo is meant for tourists and national and foreign investors.
