41st edition of Dakar Rally 2019 in Peru
Peru will be the one and only host of Dakar 2019, which will take place from 6th until the 17th of January 2019.
Normally the tour goes through more than one country, but this year Chile and Bolivia declined the race so it will start and end in the capital of the Inca country, Lima. This will be the first time in history that the Dakar race will be held solely in one country.
Last year’s race had been held in Peru, Bolivia and Argentine. Currently, the organization of Dakar is checking the options to return the race o Africa, after having some struggles in South America. In 2008, the Dakar Rally had been cancelled due to security reasons. Therefore they moved to South America in 2009 and stayed here since. Peru hosted the Dakar Rally in 2012, 2013 and 2018.
“It is clear the route is less ambitious than what we had initially planned, but it will continue to be interesting (…)”, rally director Ettiene Lavigne informed. “We will be 100% Dakar in terms of navigation, overcoming challenges in dunes, and driving across this wonderful Peruvian desert,” he added.
Peru is very excited to host the race.
