32 Countries Present Traditional Dishes at ‘Flavours of the World’ Festival Lima
Last Thursday, Lima celebrated an international food festival in the Pasaje Santa Rosa which is located in the historical center of the Peruvian capital. During the ‘Flavours of the World’ festival dishes and drinks from all 32 countries participating in the FIFA World Cup in Russia were presented.
Besides German sausages, feijoada and guacamole – dishes that were prepared by Germany, Brazil and Mexico, Peru provided traditional food such as ceviche, “lomo saltado” (sauteed pork loin served with rice and french fries), “arroz con pato” (rice with duck) and “escabeche de pollo” (pickled chicken). As a desert, Peru served “arroz con leche” (rice pudding) and “mazamorra morada”(purple corn and fruit dessert).
Apart from serving typical dishes, some countries also showed traditional dances. Brazil performed its capoeira fight-dance and Saudi Arabia its folkloric ardah dance. Russia presented some of its traditional music and dances as well.
The festival contributed to Lima’s passion and encouragement for the selection of the country for the World Cup whose football team was not qualified for the World Cup for 36 years. Since 2016, Peru’s national team has not lost one game.
