It has been a drawn out process to establish who owns Machu Picchu in Peru. Twenty years of legal battles, to be exact. Finally, it is confirmed that the Peruvian State has rightful ownership of the famous Inca Citadel Machu Picchu.
“Today, the final verdict on a dispute between a family, claiming to own Machu Picchu, and the Peruvian State was delivered in Cusco. The case has, as a whole, over 20 years of legal proceedings and, finally, the verdict was in favor of the State,” Culture Minister Luis Jaime Castillo confirmed. (more…)
