Puno celebrates 350th anniversary: What to do and where to go

The south-Peruvian city of Puno is known for its proximity to Lake Titicaca and is said to be the capital of Peruvian folklore. This can be seen during the various celebrations of saints when locals dress up in traditional costumes to dance and to play their century-old regional songs. Soon there is a new reason for a celebration: on November 4th, 2018, Puno celebrates it’s 350 anniversary.

Peruvian Coffee Receives 3 Awards

During the fourth Annual Contest Of Locally Roasted Coffees AVPA, which was held in the French capital Paris, three Peruvian coffee brands received prices. This event ranks coffees in a variety of categories and then chooses which ones are the best in their specific classification.

The Peruvian brands that won these prestigious prices are from different regions. The Junin region is represented by the brands Incanforests’ café Levado Arabiva and Cafe de Papa’s Arabica Bourbon. Both companies went home with a medal in the category of Round Balanced coffee. (more…)

The prominent travel guide Lonely Planet has recently announced their list of Best Travel Destination of 2019. This ranking lists non-touristic regions all around the world in order to promote those and give special attention to those off-the-beaten-treck destinations. The region of northern Peru has been included in the list of 2019, ranking third.

Airport Lima will grow to receive 40 million passengers by 2030

Jorge Chavez International Airport, based in the Peruvian capital Lima, is expected to welcome 40 million tourists by the year 2030. This rapid increase of arrivals at the airport is due to the extensive expansion works, which will be finished next decennium. This has just been announced by the Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Rogers Valencia.

The head of the National Chamber for Tourism (Canatur), has calculated that operations of Qatar Airways in Peru would have very positive effects on the local economy. If Qatar Airways starts flying to the capital Lima, the number of Chinese tourist arrivals will rise by a whopping 30%. The entry of wealthy Chinese tourists would offer opportunities to various destinations of Peru.

A Peruvian based vodka named 14 Inkas won the golden medal in the category “micro-distillery” during the annual event Vodka Masters in London. This has been announced by the Peruvian Ministry of Innovation and Production.

To make this acclaimed vodka, 14 Inkas made use of potatoes that only grow in Peru. This gives its own flavor to the vodka, which was praised by the jury of this contest.

First ‘Peru Travel Fair’ huge success

The first Peru Travel Fail, which is organized by the National Chamber of Tourism, or Canatur, was a huge success. More than 120 tourism companies from all over the country have participated in this event, which celebrates tourism all over Peru.

The event was held in the Peruvian capital Lima on the 17th of October. Before the fair, it was expected that the event would generate nearly 2 million Peruvian Soles (which is approximately 600.000 US Dollars) because of the business deals that would be made. This goal was reached easily (more…)

The E Building of the University of Piura has been chosen as the Best Architecture in the Americas. To wit, the building won the prestigious Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize of 2018.

The annual winner gets chosen by the American Institute of Technology’s College of Architecture in Chicago. This educational institute employs various architecture experts and educates students to become prominent in this profession.

The National Action Plan for Coffee in Peru has made goals to ensure the sustainable future of the Coffee Industry in the old Inca country. A substantial part of the goals is the empowerment of women because there is still too much discrimination and sexism against women in the industry. These goals are composed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Peru Too Strong for Chile in Friendly Football Match

Peru’s football team beat Chile last week, with 3-0 in a friendly match. Even though the match was held in the American city of Miami, there were many supporters from both countries present to cheer up their national team.
