Unknown Amazonian Tribe Caught On Camera Near Peruvian Border

Recently an unknown Amazonian tribe was discovered using drones. This clan was spotted in a remote Amazonian area in Brazil, near the Peruvian border. A team of researchers confirmed that the tribe is located between the riverbeds of the Jutaí river and the Jurazinho river.

The National Indian Foundation (NIF), the organization for which the researchers work, is looking for native tribes in the rainforest for over 100 years already. This hasn’t always been easy (more…)

Rare rodent seen in Machu Picchu after 10 years

The bamboo rat (Dactylomis peruanus) has appeared again at the Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu after ten years.

Sernanp, the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State were patrolling Phuyupatamarka sector.

The staff of the protected area made the first photographic record of the rodent, which was found among bushes on the edge of the Inca Trail.

This type of rats live in subtropical or tropical zones and it has been seen in the south of Peru and the north of Bolivia. (more…)

New type of orchid found in Peruvian jungle

Sernanp, the National Service of Natural Protected Areas of Peru has announced the discovery of a new type of orchid in a national park of the country located in the central jungle.

This new orchid has been named Andina tingomariana by the Department of Biological and Ecological of Colorado, United States. This name was chosen in honour of the the place it was first found, the Tingo Maria National Park.

Latam launches new flight Cusco-Santiago-Cusco

The Chilean-based airline inaugurated its new flight itinerary Cusco-Santiago-Cusco this last August 15th. The airline will operate this new route with an Airbus A319 with a capacity of 144 passengers.

General manager, Manuel von Oordt, said that with these international flights, it is easier to visit the Inca city. “This, in addition to our new direct flights from Cusco to the main tourist destinations such as Pisco, Iquitos and Trujillo, will allow passengers to explore Peru like never before”, he added. Machu Picchu has received over 1.11 million so far this year

The citadel of Machu Picchu, Peru’s main archaeological tourist attraction, had received over 1.11 million visitors so far in 2018, among nationals and foreigners. This was announced by Cusco’s Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) on Thrusday.

Rosendo Baca, head of Dircetur, commented that around 300 000 visitors arrived at the National Sanctuary.

Peru tries to position Pisco in European Union market

Production minister of Peru, Raul Pérez-Reyes announced that Peru is looking at the European Union (EU) to become an important consumer of Pisco, the national Peruvian alcoholic drink in the following five years.

Now the Andean country is looking to expand its offer to other countries apart from the United Stated, Spain, and Chile.

Smurf houses and Stone Forest: Places you have to visit in Peru

The Stone Forest in Pampariche, also known as Pampa de Pabellones, in the Apurimac region, is a natural formation of rocks that can reach up to 10 meters.

These rocks were formed about three million years ago out of the volcanic material released in the area (Qarwasaru and Sotaya volcanoes) and they expand up to 60 hectares.

Daniel Katanella, a videographer, recently recorded these rock formations and on his video you can see the “smurf-type” houses where the people from Apurimac live. (more…)

Almost 3600 tourists visited ancient city of Chan-Chan

The ancient city of Chan-Chan, located in La Libertad, a northern city in Peru welcomed 3589 visitors on the first Sunday of August thanks to the Open Museum programme run by Ministry of Culture.

Maria Elena Córdova, heard of La Libertad’s Decentralised Directorate of Culture announced this and that this number is 50% higher that on the first Sunday of July.

Visitors could visit the Nik An walled complex, formerly called Tschudi Palace, Chan-Chan Site Museum, and Huaca Arco Iris. (more…)
