National Chamber of Tourism speaks about Rainbown Mountain situation

President of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), Carlos Canales, expressed his concern about the management of one of the most touristic places in Peru: Winicunka, better known as The Rainbow Mountain, located in the Cusco Region.

According to the NGO CooperAcción, the mountain was commissioned by INGEMMET in favour of the mining company Minquest Peru, owned by Canadian firm Camino Minerals. This mountain is in the Ausangate Regional Conversation Area. (more…)

Inti Raymi’s tickets almost sold out

Emufec (Municipality Company of Festivities in Cusco), entity responsible for organising festivals in Cusco announced that 75% tickets for the 2018 edition of Inti Raymi have been sold.

Inti Raymi, which means Festival of the Sun in the native Peruvian language, Quechua, is an Inca religious ceremony that takes place every 24 of June at the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park.

This is a 10% increase compared to last year’s Inti Raymi, according to Giovani Madrid, vice-president of Emufec. (more…)

Peru coffee seduces international markets

Reynaldo Flores, head of Sumaq Ecological Coffee Producers Association (AP Sumaq Cafe), presented the awards his organization won for his high-quality coffee that he and his employees produce in Satipo, a province located in the center of Peru.

Amongst the prizes Sumaq obtained, there’s a bronze medal in the Aromatique Acidule category at the 3rd International Contest of Coffees Roasted in Paris.

The other award is a certificate, at Taza de Excelencia 2017, that proves that their special beans “Sumaq Coffee” (more…)

More ancient drawings Nazca Lines discovered

The infamous Nazca lines, located in the South of Peru, with its more than 70 geoglyphs drawn in the sand around 500 years before, have just included more lines.

These new drawings have been credited to the Paracas culture (around 2000 years ago) by archaeologists. Among the discoveries (around 25), there is an orca, a monkey next to a dancer, and a pelican.

Patricia Balbuena, minister of Culture, said that they didn’t know that the Paracas (around 500 before the Nazcas) had worked on the same plain and that many of these figures (more…)

Peru has started a new campaign to fight the cold. This very innovative campaign has already converted one million plastic bottles into around 6000 ponchilas.

“Ponchila” is a mixture of two Spanish words used in Peru: Poncho and Mochila (backpack). In other words, a “ponchila” is a backpack with a built-in poncho. Peru, winner of Best Destination Americas

The Shangai World Travel Fair (SWTF) takes place every year at Shangai to find the best travel destinations in the world. This time, Peru has won the title of Best Destination in the Americas for the consecutive year.

This means that Chinese consider Peru as their favorite destination.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Mincetur, confirmed that this award recognizes Peru’s efforts to attract more and more Chinese travelers. One example of this is the number of Peruvian tour operators that attended the SWFT Fair. (more…)
