Pope Francis to Officiate Mass in Huanchaco in 2018

Pope Francis is coming to Peru next year and with him will be the hordes of people who have been waiting for his visit since it was announced over a year ago.

During his trip to the city of Trujillo in northern Peru, Pope Francis will travel to the beach in nearby Huanchaco to officiate mass in front of over a million people. To obtain tickets, Monsignor Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Trujillo, said that special tickets would be given out at different parishes around the city for free. (more…)

Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton, best known in the world of sports as Lewis Hamilton, took the city of Cusco by surprise as he and his friends arrived and went immediately to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

The multimillionaire Formula One racer traveled incognito wearing a hat and sunglasses and did not arrive in the Imperial City accompanied by his famous red private plane.

Nearly 2.5 million domestic and foreign tourists have visited the Royal Tombs Museum of Sipán since its creation in 2002, informed the director of the aforementioned cultural site, archaeologist Walter Alva.

The Royal Tombs Museum celebrated its 15th anniversary on Wednesday, November 8, with a unique number of cultural, artistic and recreational activities.

Peru Continues Impressive Exportation Pisco Liquor

The “BBC World” highlighted today that Peruvian exports of pisco reached 44 nations in the world and has thus far sold much more than Chile, Peru´s main rival when it comes to sales of the brandy made from fermented grape juice.

He said that in 2016, Peruvian exports of pisco obtained revenues of just over US $8 million, according to figures from the Association of Exporters of Peru. In contrast, Chile sold about US $ 2.9 million in 2016, he noted. (more…)

Australia confirmed on Wednesday the signing of a free trade agreement with Peru during the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum (APEC) to be held from Wednesday in Vietnam, as commerce between the two countries continue to grow.

The Central Reserve Bank of Peru put into circulation from last week the second coin of the coin-collecting series “Endangered Wild Fauna of Peru”. This second coin will feature the crocodile of Tumbes after the first installment which depicted the Andean bear.

The protagonist of this new one sol coin is the Tumbes crocodile, the only animal of this type that lives in Peru and that is in a vulnerable state with a high probability of entering in danger of extinction. The BCR issued 10 million units of the new currency. (more…)

According to the recently published list “Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants”, a whopping ten restaurants from Peru are featured, once again demonstrating the country´s gastronomic prowess.

The restaurant Maido in Lima, of the chef Mitsuharu Tsumura, was placed in first place on the list while Central, last year´s number 1 ranked restaurant also from Lima of the chef Virgilio Martínez, came in second.
