A Fantastic Food Festival in Tumbes, Peru

A fantastic food festival recently took place in Tumbes, Peru, where thousands of locals and tourists gathered to partake of countless typical Peruvian dishes.

This was the 12th event of the food festival called ´´Peru, Mucho Gusto,´´ and was held in Tumbes, Peru for the second time. The festival began on November 4th and lasted until November 6th.

The event was originally founded in 2006 by the Peruvian government in order to promote gastronomy and tourism in Peru. Specifically, Peru wants to increase tourism and collaboration with its neighbor Ecuador. (more…)

Puno Celebrates its 348th Anniversary

Puno, a city in the south of Peru, recently celebrated its 348th Anniversary with many typical rituals and festivities.

The main event was a reenactment of the Legend of Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, an Incan couple that helped to found the Inca Empire and were the first rulers of the civilization.

The reenactment began with the couple on Uros, the floating islands on Lake Titicaca, along with some locals and enthusiastic tourists.

The participants, all dressed in typical Incan costumes, journeyed from the islands to Puno´s port on 60 rafts. (more…)

Peruvian Chocolate Sales Flourish in France

An international chocolate event was recently held in Paris, France, where Peruvian chocolate sales flourished.

This event, called Salon du Chocolat, was held in Paris from October 28th to November 1st. Chocolate producers and consumers from all over the world gathered at the 22nd annual Salon du Chocolat.

The Minister of Peru´s Foreign Trade and Tourism, Eduardo Ferreyros, asserted the importance of this event for promoting Peruvian chocolate in Europe. He said, ´´Salon du Chocolat is an important platform for our entrepreneurs and farmers to interact with distributors, importers and chocolatiers from the European market.´´ (more…)

The popularity of Peru´s quinoa

Peruvian grown quinoa is ever increasing in popularity. In fact, quinoa exports reached 33,778 tons in the first 8 months of this year.

The Association of Peruvian Exporters says that this marks a 36% increase of quinoa from the same period the year before.

However, experts also assert that revenues are decreasing, dropping 14% from the year before. Many say that this is due to an oversupply of the quinoa crop, therefore causing the price of quinoa to decrease.

The Association of Peruvian Exporters asserts that it is striving to promote quinoa´s benefits and different ways to use it. (more…)

Peruvian Surfer Named Women´s Pro Champion

Peruvian surfer, Sofia Mulanovich, recently participated in a competition and was named Women´s Pro Champion.

The competition, Maui & Sons Pichilemu Women´s Pro, was held at Punta Lobos beach from October 27th to October 30th.

Mulanovich competed against Costa Rica´s Leilani McGonagle, who had a score of 12.83. Mulanovich, however, finished with a score of 15.54, allowing her to take the gold at the Chilean competition.

The Peruvian surfer comments on her big win: ´´I´m happy to compete in Chile one more time. (more…)
